On August 2, 3 and 4 the vivaNext team will be on site at the festival to provide you with updates on all of our rapidway projects. The summer is our busiest season so we have lots to talk about. celebrate culture with vivaNext

Experience culture from around the world right here in York Region!

This Sunday, July 20, Newmarket is hosting the fifth annual Around the World Multicultural Event to celebrate diversity in the community. From 12:00 pm to 8:30 pm, watch Newmarket Riverwalk Commons (200 Doug Duncan Drive – map) transform into a vibrant and unique cultural display. Indulge in a blend of delicious food and multicultural stage shows featuring music, dance, and theatre, all while learning about a variety of cultures.

Bring your family and friends to watch live performances on two different world stages, and interact with over 25 exhibitors eager to share food, crafts and information. Admission to the event is free and will take place rain or shine. In the case of inclement weather, all activities will be moved inside the Newmarket Community Centre & Lions Hall. For a full list of performance times and vendor types, see the main event page.

VivaNext is proud to be part of such a diverse community that values the culture, identity and opinions of its residents. We will be taking part in this year’s colourful festivities and we encourage you to join us. In between Zumba classes and First Nations’ teachings, be sure to stop by our booth to receive updates on the rapidway projects underway in your community. You can also try your luck on a scratch ‘n’ win card for the chance at some cool prizes.

Diversity is yet another reason why York Region is a great place to live, work, shop, and play so let’s celebrate!

summer - time for fun and games

Happy Canada Day everyone!

It’s summer, and most people are looking forward to enjoying the warm weather, taking time to make new memories, and maybe doing some travelling. A picture is just a moment frozen in time, but can tell a great story. If you’re travelling on YRT\Viva this summer, we’d like you to share your picture-stories with us by posting snapshots on Instagram of you and your friends enjoying a YRT\Viva moment in time around York Region. There are great shops and destinations around town and we know many of you are using transit to get there, so we encourage you to share those moments with us. We will be running a photo contest from July 1 to September 1, after which we’ll award a “Best Photo” prize – see the photo contest details.

As part of our summer moments in time contest, we wanted to also offer you a break for fun too. So if you like puzzles and games, try out your skills with our website game, and compete for the highest score in each level to win a prize!

We know everyone isn’t a photographer or a gamer, but if you enter your contact details in the photo contest or the website game, we’ll also add your name to a random draw on September 3, just for participating and sharing a moment of your time with us!

And last but certainly not least, be sure to find the vivaNext team in the community this summer, so you can talk to us about what’s happening with the projects. The construction along the corridors is in full swing; but it is nice to take a break for a moment in time…happy summer everyone, get out and enjoy.

Contest Grand Prize winner Larisa Roiberg shows off her new iPod touch.

The sun may be in short supply this summer but the sunny smile of our Grand Prize winner, Larisa Roiberg, sure made up for it. The Friday before last, a beaming Larisa stopped by our vivaNext office to pick up her new iPod touch® after her name was randomly selected from all eligible entrants in our Next Best Thing To Summer Contest.

So how did her winning streak begin?

Larisa says she learned about our contest when she stopped by one of our booths at the mall to learn more about vivaNext projects. While there, the vivaNext team told her how much fun it was to complete our interactive story, so she decided to go online and give it a try when she got home. And wow, is she glad she did.

During the four weeks that our contest ran, about a thousand people submitted entries that showed us what their picture perfect summer looks like. Perhaps you were one of them, and maybe you were even one of the daily prize winners?

If not, don’t worry because you’ll soon have plenty of other chances to win during our upcoming fall and winter contests. The prizes will be just as exciting so be sure to watch for news about them here, on Twitter and at

Thanks for making our Next Best Thing To Summer Contest such a success.

In the past few weeks, about a thousand people visited to enter our Next Best Thing To Summer Contest, which ended this past Friday, July 31, 2009. Entrants had a lot of fun using our interactive story to show us why summer’s the best and what their picture perfect summer looks like. On the other hand, we had a lot of fun telling them how vivaNext is the next best thing to summer because it will make it faster and easier for them to get to their favourite summer activities.

Each day during the contest period, one lucky entrant was randomly selected in our daily prize draw to win cool summer gear like water bottles, Canada’s Wonderland® passes, movie tickets, laptop bags and YRT\Viva two-zone passes. In all, 26 daily prizes were awarded.

Then this past Friday, the last day of our contest, we selected the final daily winner. We are now just getting ready to select the lucky winner of our Grand Prize – a handy iPod touch®. With this new iPod touch®, our Grand Prize winner will easily be able to get up-to-date vivaNext construction and project information wirelessly.

Thanks to everyone who entered our Next Best Thing To Summer Contest and made it such a success. Please be sure to visit often for project updates and to see who won the Grand Prize.

Thousands of visitors stopped by our booths to putt golf balls and fish in our ponds for instant prizes like beach balls, flying discs and magnetic puzzles.

Of course, there was also plenty of great chitchat about vivaNext. People were really excited to learn that we’ll soon be breaking ground on the rapidways, which will make it up to 40% faster to get around York Region’s busiest corridors when completed.

If you missed us at the malls, not to worry because you could still win with vivaNext. If you haven’t entered our Next Best Thing To Summer Contest, you have until this Friday, July 31, 2009, to do so.

Win a daily prize plus an iPod touch® Grand Prize

Monday, July 6th, 2009

We’re sure you’ll agree that summer’s the best. But we think vivaNext is the next best thing. How come? Because vivaNext will make it easier and faster for you to get to your favourite summer activities. Makes sense, huh?

To spread this great news, we’re running a contest called – you’ve guessed it – the Next Best Thing To Summer Contest. It starts today and runs through until July 31, 2009.
Each day, we’ll be giving away cool summer gear like water bottles, Canada’s Wonderland® passes, movie tickets, laptop bags and YRT\Viva two-zone passes. Then, at the very end, to top it all off, one lucky person will win the handy iPod touch® Grand prize, which will make it easy for him or her to get up-to-date vivaNext construction and project information wirelessly.

To enter, all you have to do is go to our website and use our interactive story to show us what your picture perfect summer looks like. It’s fun and it’s easy. You simply fill in the blanks of our story by choosing from a menu of drag-and-drop pictures. Each time you do, you’re guaranteed to giggle as each picture moves and makes a funny noise. For instance, if you choose theme parks as one of your favourite things to do in summer, when the picture is in the right spot, the roller coaster rides through a loop and the people in it scream.

But be sure to hurry because our Next Best Thing To Summer Contest ends July 31, 2009.

Good luck!
