With utility relocation underway in Richmond Hill, residents can expect to see a number of items underway this week along Yonge Street. See below for more information.

Starting tomorrow, crews will be installing a duct bank [a structure which gathers together and encases utility cables] across Harding Boulevard East, at Yonge Street, starting on the southeast corner, working north.

work dates*: Wednesday, March 7 for approximately six weeks
work hours*: 7am-7pm

what you need to know:

stage 1:

  • Crews will be installing a duct bank across Harding East, starting on the southeast corner, working north. This stage of work will take approximately three weeks to complete.
  • To accommodate this work, there will be no access to Harding East from Yonge during work hours. Detour signs will be in place to guide motorists around the temporary closure.
  • Crews will backfill and steel plate the work area and all lanes will be re-opened at the end of each day.
  • Westbound traffic on Harding East will be maintained for the duration of this work.
  • After this stage of work has been completed, crews will backfill the work area.

stage 2:

  • Crews will progress north across Harding. This stage of work will take approximately three weeks to complete.
  • To accommodate this work, there will be no access to Yonge from Harding East during work hours. Detour signs will be in place to guide motorists around the temporary closure.
  • Crews will backfill and steel plate the work area and all lanes will be re-opened at the end of each day.
  • Eastbound traffic on Harding East will be maintained for the duration of this work.
  • After this stage of work has been completed, crews will backfill and pave the work area.

Other details:

  • Paid duty police officers will be onsite as required during this work.
  • Access to businesses and properties near the work area will be maintained.
  • Wherever possible, sidewalks and bus stops will remain open. If a sidewalk or bus stop is closed, directional signs will guide pedestrians to the nearest open sidewalk or bus stop.
  • Some weekend work will be required.
  • Due to the nature of this work, at times, there will be construction-related noise and dust from equipment and trucks.
  • Please expect delays, give yourself enough time to get to your destination, and remember to reduce your speed through construction zones.

lane closure on Yonge and Bantry

As part of ongoing gas main installation on Yonge Street, there will be one northbound curb lane closure on Yonge and one eastbound curb lane closure on Bantry Avenue. Please see below for further details.

work hours*: 7am-7pm, closure in place 24/7

what you need to know:

  • To accommodate this work, there will be one northbound curb lane closure on Yonge, just south of Bantry.
  • There will also be one eastbound curb lane closure on Bantry, just east of the intersection.
  • There will be no pedestrian access to the south crosswalk on Yonge at Bantry. Directional signs will guide pedestrians to the open crosswalk north of the intersection.
  • Traffic control staff and paid duty officers will be on site as required.
  • Some weekend work may be required.
  • Please expect delays and give yourself enough time to get to your destination. Remember to reduce your speed through construction zones.
