utility installation on Yonge from Weldrick to Major Mackenzie

November 03, 2017

Starting Monday, crews will be installing a duct bank [a structure which gathers together and encases utility cables] on the east side of Yonge Street from Weldrick Road East to Major Mackenzie Drive East.

work dates*: Monday, November 6, for approximately five months
work hours: 7am-7pm

what you need to know

  • Crews will install the duct bank by digging an open trench that will encase the utility cables.
  • To accommodate this work, there will be temporary northbound curb lane closures around the work area. More information about these lane closures will be provided once details are confirmed.
  • Wherever possible, sidewalks will remain open. If a sidewalk is closed, directional signage will be onsite to guide pedestrians to the nearest open sidewalk.
  • Access to properties in the work area will be maintained; however driveways may be reduced or temporarily disrupted. Advance notice will be provided wherever possible.
  • Bus stops may be temporarily relocated as work progresses. Where bus stops are affected, directional signage will guide pedestrians to the nearest open bus stop.
  • Some weekend and overnight work may be required.
  • Equipment used for this operation will be stored along the boulevards for the duration of this work.

*Please note: As with all construction projects, some work may be re-scheduled due to weather. We’ll provide advance notice when possible. Watch twitter.com/vivanext for last-minute updates.

With the weekend upon us, remember to stop by Yonge Street to shop & dine! During construction, your local business owners want to remind you to keep shopping and using services along Yonge. They appreciate the support and look forward to seeing you.
