With utility relocation underway in Richmond Hill, residents can expect to see a number of items underway along Yonge Street. See below for more information.

Dalemount/Edgar road closure at Yonge for sanitary sewer installation

To accommodate sanitary sewer installation, Dalemount Gate, at Yonge Street, will be closed for three nights [Monday, November 27 – Wednesday, November 29] between 7pm-7am. Crews will progress west, closing Edgar Avenue, at Yonge, for one night [Thursday, November 30] between 7pm-7am.

work dates*: Monday, November 27 – Friday, December 1
work hours: 7pm-7am

stage 1:

  • Crews will be installing a sanitary sewer on Yonge at Dalemount, and work west across Yonge.
  • To accommodate this work, Dalemount will be closed each evening during work hours. Dalemount will reopen each morning at 7am.
  • Northbound traffic on Yonge will be shifted west during work hours. Yonge will be reduced to one lane northbound and one lane southbound in the work zone.

stage 2:

  • Crews will progress west across Yonge to Edgar to install a sanitary sewer.
  • Edgar will be closed during work hours, and reopen at 7am.
  • To accommodate this work, southbound traffic on Yonge will be shifted to the east during work hours. Yonge will also be reduced to one northbound and one southbound lane in the work zone.

other details:

  • Detour signs will be in place to guide motorists and pedestrians around the temporary road closures.
  • Access to businesses and properties near the work area will be maintained.
  • Traffic control staff and paid duty police officers will be onsite as required.
  • Sidewalks around the work area will be temporarily closed during work hours. Directional signage will be onsite to guide pedestrians to the nearest open sidewalk.

update: utility installation on Oak at Yonge

Crews are now scheduled to install a duct bank [a structure which gathers together and encases telecommunications cables] on the west side of Yonge Street at Oak Avenue next week, starting on Monday, November 27.

work dates*: Monday, November 27 – Thursday, November 30
work hours: 7am – 7pm

what you need to know:

  • Monday - Wednesday, crews will be working on the northwest corner of Yonge and Oak, working south.
    • To accommodate this work, access to Yonge and Oak will be limited.
    • Crews will backfill and plate the work area at the end of each day.
    • At times, there will be no access to Yonge or Oak for up to 10 minutes.
  • Thursday, crews will pave Oak, starting on the northwest corner, moving south.
    • To accommodate this work, access to Oak and Yonge will be limited each day.
    • At times, there will be no access to Yonge or Oak for up to 10 minutes.
  • Traffic control staff will be onsite for the duration of the work.
  • Please follow detour signs that will guide motorists around the work zone.
  • Please expect delays and give yourself enough time to get to your destination, and remember to reduce your speed through construction zones.
  • Due to the nature of this work, there will be, at times, construction-related noise and dust from equipment and trucks.
