this week >> water main and manhole work on Highway 7 West

January 21, 2019

To accommodate ongoing water main installations on Highway 7 West, there will be lane closures on Wigwoss Drive / Helen Street. In addition, there will be westbound lane closures on Highway 7 approaching approaching Weston Road to accommodate manhole work. Please see below for further details.

water main work:

work dates*: Tuesday, January 22 to Tuesday, February 5
work hours*: 9:30am – 3:30pm [24-hour/day lane reduction]

  • To accommodate the water main work on the east side of Wigwoss / Helen just north and south of Highway 7, northbound and southbound traffic will be shifted toward the west, with northbound traffic down to one lane.
  • Paid duty police officers will be onsite for the duration of the shift to control traffic.
  • All driveways will remain accessible within the work area; however, driveways may be reduced or temporarily disrupted.
  • There may be some noise prior to the start time as crews assemble and arrange required equipment.
  • To learn more about upgrading utility infrastructure along the corridor, check out, the utility bonus blog.

manhole work:

work dates*: Tuesday, January 22
work hours*: 11am – 2pm

  • To accommodate manhole work on westbound Highway 7, there will be lane restrictions approaching the Weston Road intersection. Left turns, right turns and straight-through movements will be permitted.
  • Paid duty police officers will be onsite during the work to control traffic as needed.

general impacts:

  • Sidewalks will remain open wherever possible. If a sidewalk is temporarily closed, directional signs will guide pedestrians to the nearest open sidewalk.
  • Bus stops may be temporarily relocated or closed. Where bus stops are affected, directional signs will guide pedestrians to the nearest open bus stop. Provisions will be made for safe boarding and off-boarding at roadside.
  • Please give yourself enough time to get to your destination, and remember to reduce your speed through construction zones.
  • Cross at the designated crosswalk. It can be tempting to cross in the middle of the road, but this can be very dangerous. Instead, cross at a designated crosswalk. Look both ways and be aware of your surroundings.

*Please note: As with other road construction projects, some work may be rescheduled due to weather or other variables. We are committed to providing advance notice whenever possible. Check twitter.com/vivanext for last-minute updates.
