Friday overnight >> milling and re-paving on Bathurst

June 18, 2020

On Friday evening and overnight, crews will be conducting asphalt deficiency repairs on Bathurst Street between Centre Street and the Highway 7-Bathurst Connecting Road intersection, as the project's deficiency and warranty work in the Bathurst & Centre area continues. To accommodate this work, there will be lane closures, buses will be diverted into mixed traffic where necessary, and Highway 407 ramps will be closed. Please see below for further details.

what you need to know:

work dates*: Friday, June 19 to Saturday, June 20
work hours*: 10pm – 4:30am [overnight]

  • Between 6pm and 11pm, milling will take place in certain deficiency areas from Centre to Worth/Flamingo and then they will repave. Note that milling in this area will be completed by 11pm.
  • Then from 11pm to 5am, crews will mill and pave from the Highway 407 ramps to the intersection for the Bathurst-Highway 7.
  • In addition, the following Hwy 407 ramps will be closed:
    • On-ramp from northbound Bathurst to eastbound 407 [8pm-5am]
    • On-ramp from northbound Bathurst to westbound 407 [8pm-5am]
    • Off-ramp from westbound Hwy 407 to Bathurst signalized intersection [10pm-5am]
  • Traffic control staff and paid duty police officers will be onsite to help direct traffic, as needed.
  • Wherever possible, sidewalks and bus stops will remain open. If a bus stop or sidewalk is temporarily closed, directional signs will guide pedestrians to the nearest open bus stop or sidewalk.
  • Access to driveways will be maintained at all times.
  • Please give yourself enough time to get to your destination, and remember to reduce your speed through construction zones.
  • Due to the nature of this work, there will be dust and construction-related noise from equipment and trucks.

safety border

for your safety:

be alert.

  • With construction site conditions changing daily, it's important for everyone to pay attention to their surroundings. Watch for signs and traffic barrels that indicate lane closures or shifts, as well as relocated sidewalks and bus stops.

be safe.

  • Do not walk into construction zones or remove signs and barricades that are in place for everyone's safety. Even when no workers are present, it's a hazardous area. Cross at designated crosswalks, follow posted signs, and keep at a safe distance.

slow down.

  • To protect construction workers, pedestrians and yourself, it's crucial to slow down, follow the posted speed limit, and pay close attention to construction signs and road markings.

safety is a shared responsibility.

  • Do not ignore safety warnings or put others at risk by moving pylons, barricades or signage. Let's make sure at the end of every day, everyone gets home to their families.

We understand that overnight work is disruptive to those who live and work in the area, and have taken steps to reduce the impacts where possible. While we aim to balance the needs of commuters, businesses, area residents, the community at large and the project, night work is sometimes unavoidable.

to minimize disruption where possible, crews will:

  • Limit the reversing of vehicles with back-up safety beeper.
  • Aim headlights away from buildings and homes.
  • Reduce the banging noise from dump truck tailgates.
  • Set up portable lights in a way that limits upcasting onto buildings.
  • Ensure equipment is well maintained and running well.

*Please note: As with other road construction projects, some work may be rescheduled due to weather or other variables. We are committed to providing advance notice whenever possible. Check twitter.com/vivanext for last-minute updates.
