what you need to know:

  • Crews will excavate pits and install new wooden poles.
  • Hydro service will be transferred from the old poles to the new poles.
  • Existing poles will be removed and holes backfilled.
  • Crews will dig trenches in select areas to connect underground service lines.
  • Temporary north and southbound curb lane closures will be required around work areas.
  • Alectra Utilities (formerly PowerStream) will advise clients of any planned disruption in advance.
  • Wherever possible, bus stops and sidewalks will remain open. If a bus stop or sidewalk is closed, directional signs will guide pedestrians to the nearest open bus stop or sidewalk.
  • Due to the nature of this work, at times, there will be construction-related noise and dust from equipment and trucks.
  • Weekend work will be required.
  • Please give yourself enough time to get to your destination, and remember to reduce your speed through construction zones.

*Please note: As with all construction projects, some work may be re-scheduled due to weather. We’ll provide advanced notice when possible.

We understand that construction can be disruptive and we thank you for your patience. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Yonge Street / Richmond Hill

This line is on a roll.

In Richmond Hill, where the future Yonge Street North Subway extension ends, a new journey begins. Here, the Yonge Street rapidway will keep you on your journey up the GTA’s most storied corridor. As life along Yonge continues to look up, plans for this area include a wide range of new development initiatives, from great shopping and entertainment to vibrant public spaces.

Wait, there’s more. Work is also underway for a rapidway along Yonge Street from Mulock Drive to Davis Drive. Why? It’s all part of the comprehensive rapid transit network that connects the Region’s urban centres.

Are we there yet? Well, we’re getting close. The relocation of underground utilities will start soon and lane closures will be necessary. Sign up for construction updates to stay informed so you can plan ahead. Additional rapidways on Yonge Street north to Green Lane and south of Mulock Drive are dependent on funding commitments.
