Yonge Street / Newmarket

Transit connections are transforming Newmarket – with the rapidway project on Yonge Street open for service on Sunday, January 5.

The new rapidway on Yonge extends 2.4 km from Savage Road / Sawmill Valley Drive to Davis Drive. Construction on this section of rapidway began in the fall of 2015.

Newmarket is growing! Yonge will now have upgraded utilities, sidewalks lined with trees and shrubs, and raised bike lanes, bringing more inviting places to walk and cycle. Well-planned transit helps shape communities and transforms lives. People will have an integrated transit system, which provides more options to get around.

Rapidway construction on Yonge in Richmond Hill, from Highway 7 to Major Mackenzie Drive and from Levendale Road to 19th Avenue / Gamble Road, is expected to be completed by the end of 2020. When complete, the Yonge rapidways will connect to already open rapidways on Highway 7 in Richmond Hill, Vaughan and Markham.
