supporting businesses

Once complete, rapidways will help connect people from York Region and beyond while attracting new customers to our local businesses. Construction is messy and we’re here to help everyone get through it.

With input from the Community Liaison for each project, construction activity is carefully planned in a way that provides advanced notice of upcoming work and minimizes disruptions as much as possible to area businesses. As work continues along the corridor, we also provide directional signs for motorists and pedestrians to help them access businesses and continue shopping and getting to their favourite services.

business support program

To help local businesses during the construction period, vivaNext developed a Business Support Program in collaboration with local chambers of commerce, boards of trade and municipal staff in the impacted business development areas.

Each year, vivaNext launches its own public campaign to remind the community that businesses are still open during construction – this includes ads in newspapers, on buses and billboards and on social media and the radio. We also post profiles of businesses on our website and social media.

Beyond ads, billboards and on-street signs, we host or participate in local events and contests to promote businesses impacted by construction, and help businesses with alternative marketing methods. We’ve worked with local chambers of commerce and boards of trade to develop a vivaNext campaign for each area – we’ve linked a few examples below:

•   Shop 7 in Vaughan
•   Shop Bathurst and Centre in Vaughan
•   Shop Yonge in Newmarket and Richmond Hill

Two of our rapidway projects are complete. When they were under construction, we also developed campaigns for them:

•   Shop 7 in Markham and Richmond Hill
Shop Davis in Newmarket

If you’re a business owner in one of our construction areas, contact your Community Liaison to find out what the Shop program in your area can offer.
