Q: Who puts on the Selfie Contest?
A: VivaNext has partnered with the Town of Newmarket and the Newmarket Chamber of Commerce to bring Newmarket residents a fun contest with great weekly prizes.

Q: Why was the Selfie Contest created?
A: We developed this contest as a way to support the businesses that make Yonge Street such a great place to stop, shop and dine.

Q: How do I participate in the contest?
A: Residents can visit businesses within the Yonge Street rapidway construction area – between Savage Road/Sawmill Valley Drive and Davis Drive – and post a photo from that business on Instagram or Twitter using the hashtag #MyYongeStreet.

Q: What sort of prizes can I win by participating?
A: Each week, three lucky winners will receive $100 to be spent in the store where the winning selfie was taken. There will be three grand prize draws for Yonge Street Shopping Sprees valued at $1000, $750 or $500.
Residents can only win one weekly prize, and it must be from a different business.

Q: When can I enter the contest?
A: The contest runs from Monday, August 14 until midnight on Sunday, September 3, 2017.

Q: : If I’m selected as a winner, how will I be notified?
A: Winners will be notified by the method the image was submitted [i.e; Instagram, Twitter or through email].

The #MyYongeStreet Selfie Contest [“#MyYongeStreet Contest”] begins on Monday, August 14, 2017, and ends at midnight on Sunday, September 3, 2017.

to play:

1. Visit a business within the Yonge Street rapidway construction area in Newmarket (on Yonge Street between Savage Road/Sawmill Valley Drive and Davis Drive),
2. Take a photo of yourself – a “selfie” – with your purchase in the business,
3. Post your selfie on Twitter and/or Instagram [or email to contest@vivanext.com] accompanied by the name of the business and the “#MyYongeStreet” hashtag.

Photos selected in each random draw will be reviewed for eligibility, and YRRTC staff will contact the winning player.

photo eligibility:

York Region Rapid Transit Corporation [YRRTC] has full discretion in applying the following criteria to judging photos received in the #MyYongeStreet Contest:

  • Each photo must clearly show the face of the person holding the camera, as well as the inside of a business located on a property in the Yonge Street, Newmarket construction area. Please note that alcohol and tobacco products cannot be purchased with prize vouchers won as part of the #MyYongeStreet Contest.
  • A player may enter multiple photos from inside the same or different businesses, as long as each photo entry shows a different subject or angle, it will be considered as a separate entry.
  • Photos must not contain negative or obscene gestures, symbols or words, or show illegal behaviour.

The following prizes are available as part of the #MyYongeStreet Contest:

Three weekly random draws for a $100 voucher, to be spent in the Yonge Street business where the selfie was taken.

  • Each weekly random draw will include photos posted to Twitter or Instagram, or emailed to contest@vivanext.com during the previous week [Monday through Sunday], and a winning photo will be selected on the following Monday [or Tuesday, September 5, 2017 after the September long weekend].
  • Players are eligible to enter each weekly random draw.
  • Once a business has been featured in a selfie selected as the weekly random draw winner, selfies featuring that business are not eligible for the remaining weekly random draws. However, selfies featuring that business are still eligible to be entered in the grand prize random draws at the end of the #MyYongeStreet Contest.

Three grand prize random draws for vouchers valued at $1000, $750 and $500, to be spent in any of the businesses in the Yonge Street rapidway construction area.

  • The grand prize random draws will include all eligible photos posted during the contest [August 14 to September 3], and the winning photos will be selected on Tuesday, September 5.
  • All contest entries from all players will be included in the grand prize random draws, regardless of whether they have previously won a weekly random draw or not.

Prize vouchers must be spent by the winners in one “shopping spree day” by the end of business on Friday, October 27, 2017.

Prize amounts include taxes, tips, or other expenses incurred while redeeming the voucher.

Prize amounts cannot be used to purchase gift cards/certificates of businesses that are not located in the Yonge Street, Newmarket rapidway construction area.

Alcohol and tobacco products cannot be purchased with prize vouchers won as part of the weekly draws, or as part of the grand prize.

eligibility for #MyYongeStreet Contest

To win, players must be Ontario residents who have reached age 18 prior to August 14, 2017. Employees of the Town of Newmarket, the Newmarket Chamber of Commerce, The Regional Municipality of York and York Region Rapid Transit Corporation [YRRTC] and their consultants and consultant subcontractors are not eligible to play.

procedure for awarding prizes in #MyYongeStreet Contest

YRRTC staff will contact contest winners to notify them of their prize.

Players will accept their prize at the business location where their selfie was taken, at a date [before Friday, September 8, 2017] and time pre-arranged by the player, a YRRTC staff, and the business.

When accepting their prizes, winners must answer a skill-testing question, show valid photo ID and sign a standard Declaration and Release form. The Declaration and Release form confirms compliance with the contest rules, acceptance of the prize as awarded, and releases YRRTC and The Regional Municipality of York, and their officers, employees, council members and agents from any and all liability, claims, and actions of any kind arising from or in connection with the contest and the receipt, ownership or use of the prize.

If a winning player is determined to be under age 18, the prize will be awarded to the player’s parent or legal guardian, who must be 18 or older, answer the skill-testing question, and sign the Declaration and Release form mentioned in the preceding paragraph.

general rules for #MyYongeStreet Contest

1. By participating in this contest, players consent to the use of their name, voice, resemblance, photograph and/or image without compensation, whether online, in print, or in any other media, in connection with contest publicity and/or any aspect of YRRTC and The Regional Municipality of York. Players waive all rights, including moral rights, in this respect. In the interests of privacy, YRRTC will not share publicly any photo submitted as part of this contest which includes, or appears to include, any secondary person who may have been included in the photo without their permission.
2. By entering, players release and hold harmless YRRTC and The Regional Municipality of York and their officers, employees, council members and agents from any and all liability, claims, and actions of any kind arising from or in connection with the contest or any prize won.
3. No purchase is required to enter in the #MyYongeStreet Contest. To enter without making a purchase, submit your name and contact info to contest@vivanext.com.
4. The prize must be accepted as is, and may not be exchanged. No substitutions will be allowed.
5. For each random draw, YRRTC staff will use computer software to select a winning “ballot.” YRRTC and The Regional Municipality of York shall assume no liability for losses, delays, errors, technical malfunction, damage or any other issue that may occur during collection or processing of contest “ballots” into the software.
6. YRRTC and The Regional Municipality of York reserve the right to withdraw, terminate, amend or suspend this contest at any time without notice. The published contest schedule and rules are subject to change at any time and without notice.
7. YRRTC and The Regional Municipality of York reserve the right to disqualify from this contest and any future contests or other promotions conducted by YRRTC and The Regional Municipality of York, any individual that they find or believe to be tampering with the entry process or the operation of the contest, to be acting in violation of the official rules or in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner, or with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other person.
