Pita Pit

Spicy black bean pita rocks!

Jeremy M.

As more Canadians become dedicated to living healthy lifestyles, on-the-go restaurants that provide nutritious options are becoming increasingly popular.  Jason Muise, owner and operator of Pita Pit in Newmarket, says a menu of health-friendly offerings of pitas and smoothies is what makes his business successful. “As people become more aware of nutrition, our healthy choices will continue to flourish,” says Jason. We’re fast, fresh, healthy and fun.”

Pita Pit, a Canadian-owned and operated franchise, has 135 locations across the country and continues to grow. Jason has owned the Newmarket location since 2006 and hopes to open a second location in Aurora. “[Pita Pit] is the original pita franchise,” says Jason. “We are the world’s biggest pita franchise and we were ranked #124 in Entrepreneur.com’s 2011 list of the top 500 global franchises, and #1 in the Pita category.”

Besides fresh and healthful food, Pita Pit also believes in outstanding customer service and connecting with the community. Pita Pit currently caters to a dozen elementary schools in the Newmarket area, a number that will increase in September.

Customers appreciate Pita Pit’s speedy service and Jason and his staff try to make each visit fun, despite how brief it may be. “Every Tuesday is free-throw Tuesday. Anybody that orders a pita gets one free shot at the basketball net and if they sink the basket, they can win a prize,” explains Jason. “We strive to make a customer’s visit enjoyable by connecting with them.”

As Newmarket undergoes a transformation, one which will revitalize Davis Drive, Jason knows his business is in the right place. “Like in most businesses, location is crucial. This location, right at Yonge and Davis, will always be a focal point of Newmarket.” says Jason. “Once all the construction is done, this intersection will be a major point of access for anybody in Newmarket. Residents of Newmarket are active people and a healthy choice like ours is only becoming more popular.”
