Why vivaNext?

Viva operating today was planned to be the first generation of rapid transit in York Region – frequent service, comfortable vehicles, real-time information displays and service along key corridors. Now it is time for the next phase, which means so much more for our communities.

York Region is growing, with more people coming every year to work, live or play. Growth is great – if it’s managed well.

Part of the answer lies in careful planning, with clear rules for where new growth will go, and what will be allowed. This ensures our existing neighbourhoods can stay the way they are, while new developments are designed to be more compact, pedestrian-friendly and easily accessed with public transit.

When rapid transit is well planned, it can help shape communities and provide people with choices, so they won’t need to rely on cars to get where they want to go. That’s how vivaNext helps York Region manage growth in a way that is great for everyone.
