Environmental assessments on Highway 7 West

Where and when is the work being done?

  • Dates: Sunday, January 15 to Tuesday, January 17, 2012.
  • Hours of work: 9am to 3pm.
  • Work location: various locations along Highway 7 West, between Highway 400 and Creditstone Road.

What is being done?

Crews will take measurements and photographs, and visually inspect the roadway and surrounding area.

What impact will this have?

Crew members may be noticeable in the area wearing safety vests and carrying clipboards. Aside from this, this work will not affect residents, businesses, drivers and pedestrians.

Why does this work need to be done?

Environmental assessments need to be completed to prepare for the vivaNext rapidway project. Rapidway construction on Highway 7 West will happen in two phases, starting this year and scheduled to be complete by 2020.

paving continues this fall along Highway 7 West!

As construction continues along Highway 7 West, we’re paving between Commerce Street and Baldwin Avenue. The work is scheduled to continue into late October and early November, depending on weather conditions. Work will be completed one section at a time [see map below] and will require some lane closures on weeknights and partial intersection closures on weekends. Police officers and traffic control persons will be on-site to direct traffic and assist pedestrians.

*Thursday, October 15 at 7pm to Monday, October 19 at 6am

    • The south side of Hwy, 7 will be closed from Costa Road intersection to Keele Street, as crews work around the clock to complete paving activities. In addition, Costa at Highway 7 will be closed.
    • Paving work will be from Costa to the CN Bridge, then from the CN Bridge to Keele.
    • Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction from Costa to Keele.
    • Signs as well as paid duty officers will be on site to help guide pedestrians and drivers.
    • Some bus stop relocations will be required for this work. Where bus stops are affected, directional signs will guide pedestrians to the nearest open bus stop.

Bowes Rd./Baldwin Ave. intersection south side at Hwy 7

*tentatively scheduled for: Friday, October 30 at 7pm to Monday, November 2 at 6am

  • The south side of the intersection will be closed, along with a short distance of Baldwin Ave. south of Highway 7.
  • Highway 7 traffic will be reduced to one lane open in each direction.
  • Detour signs will be in place, and paid duty police officers will be on site to help direct traffic.
  • Local residents and businesses will have dedicated parking.
