Bridge survey work begins on Highway 7 West

Our crews will be surveying the Highway 7 West bridges that travel over Highway 400 and the CN rail tracks.

Why is this work taking place?

The bridge surveys are part of the vivaNext preliminary design and engineering of the Highway 7 West rapidway.

When will it take place?

  • The CN bridge surveying is scheduled for the week of June 6, and the Highway 400 bridge is scheduled for the week of June 20*
  • The surveying on each bridge will take about two weeks to complete

What type of work is being done?

  • Detailed visual inspections of all accessible areas of the bridge
  • Extraction and testing of small samples from the concrete deck

The bridge surveys will help determine the integrity of the foundations and main bridge structures, and identify any restoration work that might need to be done

What impact will there be?

  • Workers will be on-site, harnessed to the bridge as they complete their inspection and collect samples
  • Periodic lane closures will be required during off-peak hours (9:30am – 3:30pm on weekdays)
  • Potential sidewalk closures – signs will direct pedestrians as needed

Highway 7 West \ Vaughan

Lucky number seven.

It isn’t just the Spadina Subway line that’s coming to Vaughan. It’s everyone. And everything. The Vaughan Metropolitan Centre is on its way and that means offices, residences, restaurants, entertainment and busloads of culture. Yes, busloads.

York Region’s easiest, most convenient way to get there? Viva.

Beginning from the Yonge subway linkup and heading westward, this dedicated rapidway will carry riders to their preferred port of call, whether it’s the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre, Thornhill or Pine Valley Drive further west or any point between.

Are we there yet? Overall, it’s looking great out west. 2016 is the first date to mark in your calendar, with the rapidway’s anticipated completion from Edgeley Boulevard to Bowes Road. Meanwhile, stops from Edgeley to Helen and Bowes to Yonge Street will be built by 2019. Further construction beyond 2019 could also be in the future—plans depend on available funding commitments.
