Operator training begins on viva rapidway at Enterprise Boulevard

YRTViva will begin training operators of viva vehicles on the new rapidway along Enterprise Boulevard near Warden Avenue. Training will allow operators to practice approaching and stopping at the new vivastation and try the new onboard systems.

When will training start?

Training begins February 16, and will take about 4 weeks to complete. Daily training schedule runs from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Where should I wait for viva?

Please continue to use the existing viva stops on Enterprise Boulevard. Once the driver training is complete, we will announce the opening of the new station.

What impact will there be?

Some changes to traffic flow have been made at the intersection, including:

  • No turning right on a red light from westbound Enterprise to northbound Warden.
  • Only one left-turn lane exists from westbound Enterprise to southbound Warden.
  • Drivers on Rouge Valley must stop at the designated location (behind the rapidway lanes) to activate the traffic signal change and to avoid conflict with viva buses travelling on the rapidway.
  • There is a new traffic signal added for viva buses using the rapidway. Be sure to wait for the green light for vehicles before proceeding through the intersection.

These changes are now being studied to determine if other refinements are required at the intersection.

Highway 7 East \ Markham and Richmond Hill

Where east meets west.

Markham and Richmond Hill are becoming key destinations within York Region. The Highway 7 East rapidways that travel through both of these municipalities will connect to the Richmond Hill Centre, a new mixed-use urban centre featuring businesses, homes, shops, restaurants, a 10-acre park, a theatre – and you. This is where the planned Yonge North Subway extension will begin (or end). Pick your ride – any ride. From Richmond Hill Centre you’ll find connections to viva, GO, YRT and TTC.

Work started in the Highway 7 right-of-way in April 2011. The first stretch of Viva rapid transit service launched in August 2013 in the centre median, or rapidway, along Highway 7 from Bayview Avenue to Highway 404. In August 2014, the second stretch opened from Highway 404 to South Town Centre Boulevard, and the last piece to Warden Avenue will open by the end of 2014. Future plans to build east to Reesor Road are dependent on additional funding commitments.
