Highway 7 nightly lane closures west of Warden

What type of work is being done?

Hydro wires will be installed in Markham at Rodick Road, on the south side of Highway 7. The work will start on Sunday, August 14, from 8:00pm to 6:00am, and will take place over 6 nights. Work will be completed by morning of Saturday, August 20.

What does the work entail?

  • The pavement will be cut across Rodick Road
  • New hydro wires will be installed
  • The existing road will be restored

What impact will there be?

  • Nightly lane closures along Rodick Road will begin for southbound traffic and move to northbound traffic, as work progresses. One lane will be closed at a time
  • Police officers will be on site to manage traffic flow
  • Lanes will be back-filled and paved as work progresses, to keep lanes open during the day
  • The sidewalk will be closed where work is being done
  • Signage will be in place to direct pedestrians
  • There will be continuous noise from the sound of our equipment
  • Work will be completed as quickly as possible to minimize any inconvenience

Will any bus stops be affected?

  • No bus stops will be impacted for this work

Please Note: As with all construction projects, work may need to be rescheduled due to weather. We’ll provide advance notice whenever possible.

Highway 7 East \ Markham and Richmond Hill

Where east meets west.

Markham and Richmond Hill are becoming key destinations within York Region. The Highway 7 East rapidways that travel through both of these municipalities will connect to the Richmond Hill Centre, a new mixed-use urban centre featuring businesses, homes, shops, restaurants, a 10-acre park, a theatre – and you. This is where the planned Yonge North Subway extension will begin (or end). Pick your ride – any ride. From Richmond Hill Centre you’ll find connections to viva, GO, YRT and TTC.

Work started in the Highway 7 right-of-way in April 2011. The first stretch of Viva rapid transit service launched in August 2013 in the centre median, or rapidway, along Highway 7 from Bayview Avenue to Highway 404. In August 2014, the second stretch opened from Highway 404 to South Town Centre Boulevard, and the last piece to Warden Avenue will open by the end of 2014. Future plans to build east to Reesor Road are dependent on additional funding commitments.
