Highway 7 East lane & road closures for September 18–24

Valleymede Drive

Various entrance closures along Highway 7 (north and south sides of the street), between Saddlecreek Drive and Valleymede Drive. Please use entrances along side streets.

  • Week of September 18

Nighttime asphalt paving on the south side of Highway 7, between Valleymede Drive and Highway 404 (no lane closures).

  • September 23–24, 8pm–6am

Pond Drive

Pond Drive closed at Highway 7 for drainage work. Motorists along Highway 7 can take Times Avenue or Commerce Valley Drive West to South Park Road to access Pond Drive. The sidewalk through the construction zone will be closed – please follow pedestrian detour signs. The YRT bus stop (currently located on the west corner of the intersection) will be temporarily moved 100 metres farther west – please follow on-site signs.

  • September 19, 6am to September 23, 6pm

Commerce Valley Drive East

Access to the Commerce Gate plaza from eastbound Highway 7 will be closed. Please use entrance on Commerce Valley Drive West.

  • September 18–21, day and night closure

East and West Beaver Creek Road and Valleymede Drive

One eastbound lane or one westbound lane closed from: Saddlecreek Drive to east of Valleymede Drive; west of West Beaver Creek Road; and west of East Beaver Creek Road.

  • Week of September 18, 9:30am – 3:30pm

Woodbine Avenue

Reduction to one lane in each direction between Allstate Parkway and Woodbine Avenue for nighttime line painting. Please be advised of periodic noise from a waterblasting truck (used for paint removal). A paid duty police officer will be on-site.

  • Week of September 18, 8pm – 6am 

Please Note: As with all construction projects, some of the work will have noise impacts. In addition, work may be rescheduled due to weather. We’ll provide advance notice whenever possible.

Highway 7 East \ Markham and Richmond Hill

Where east meets west.

Markham and Richmond Hill are becoming key destinations within York Region. The Highway 7 East rapidways that travel through both of these municipalities will connect to the Richmond Hill Centre, a new mixed-use urban centre featuring businesses, homes, shops, restaurants, a 10-acre park, a theatre – and you. This is where the planned Yonge North Subway extension will begin (or end). Pick your ride – any ride. From Richmond Hill Centre you’ll find connections to viva, GO, YRT and TTC.

Work started in the Highway 7 right-of-way in April 2011. The first stretch of Viva rapid transit service launched in August 2013 in the centre median, or rapidway, along Highway 7 from Bayview Avenue to Highway 404. In August 2014, the second stretch opened from Highway 404 to South Town Centre Boulevard, and the last piece to Warden Avenue will open by the end of 2014. Future plans to build east to Reesor Road are dependent on additional funding commitments.
