changes to intersections and access to businesses at Southlake and Main

Crews will be working this weekend to prepare for a traffic shift as early as Monday, January 12, in front of Southlake Regional Health Centre and Main Street. Please be mindful of shifting lanes and closures and expect delays. See below for further details.

access changes to Southlake and businesses between Lundy’s and Roxborough

Over the winter months, crews will continue working on the Southlake vivastation platforms [in the middle of the road] between Lundy’s Lane/Prospect Street and Patterson Street/Roxborough Road. To accommodate this work, east and westbound traffic lanes will be divided and shifted to the north and south. As a result there will be important changes to how vehicles access Southlake Hospital, Bolton Avenue and the businesses across from the hospital [625-665A Davis Drive]. Work will be completed in stages with access to businesses and the hospital changing as work progresses.

Work dates: January 2015 – April 2015

How to access Southlake Hospital and businesses in the area [see map]

  • Westbound access into the Southlake Emergency entrance located off Davis Drive will be closed for approximately 3 months
  • To access Southlake Hospital, please consider using the Prospect Street or Roxborough Road entrances
  • When exiting Southlake Hospital onto Davis Drive, vehicles will only be able turn right [eastbound] onto Davis
  • To safely access the Davis Drive hospital entrance and businesses in the area, access lanes have been created in the centre of the road at Bolton Avenue and at 665A Davis Drive to allow vehicles to make permitted left-turns. Motorists may enter the access lanes and when safe, turn onto Davis to head to their destination
  • When exiting 625-665A Davis businesses, vehicles will only be able to turn right [westbound] onto Davis. This will be a permanent condition
  • Vehicles using these new access lanes are reminded to yield to on-coming traffic and when safe, turn onto Davis

Bus stop relocations

  • Once the traffic shift is complete, the westbound bus stop #2590 will be reinstated under the pedestrian bridge near Lundy’s Lane

traffic changes at Main Street and Davis Drive

Next week crews will also shift traffic on Davis at the Main and Davis intersection, in preparation for eastbound vivastation construction. This shift will result in permanent changes to how pedestrians and motorists will use the intersection and access Superior Street and Davis Drive businesses in the area.

How to access businesses around Main and Davis

  • Left-turns from Davis Drive into the east driveway to 390 Davis, 14-18 Main Street [Wimpy’s /Mac’s Convenience], 446 Davis [Big Daddy’s/Catch the Fire Revival Church] and 435 Davis [Carpet One] will no longer be possible
  • Motorists will only be able to make right-turns into and out of the above mentioned driveways from Davis
  • U-turns on Davis at Main will be permitted to access your destination [see our video about u-turns]
  • An access-lane will be temporarily installed in front of 455 Davis [Livio’s Car Sales] for left-turn access into the business. When construction is complete, the final access into 455 Davis will be a right-in and right-out only

Superior Street

  • Motorists will only be able to make right-turns into and out of Superior Street from Davis. This condition is permanent

Bus stop relocations and crosswalk changes

  • Pedestrians may cross Davis at Main Street in two stages if unable to get to the other side during the first signal
  • In order to accommodate the traffic shift, the westbound YRT/GO bus stop #2592 near the Tannery was relocated in front of 455 Davis [Livio’s Car Sales]. The bus stop will stay in this location until further notice

Riders can now enjoy a quick comfortable journey to one of three vivastations at Longford, Main and Southlake, or continue to the Highway 404 park and ride with curbside stops at Huron Heights and Leslie.

With fast, reliable transit and updated utilities in place, Newmarket is prepared for the growth already happening. More travel choices and attractive, tree-lined streets will bring more places to live and work in Newmarket’s downtown. All this goes a long way to improving transit in York Region and all of you are a big part of that. Thank you!
