Where is the terminal located?
Cornell Bus Terminal is located near Highway 7 and Ninth Line and just south of Markham Stouffville Hospital and the Cornell Community Centre and Library, in the City of Markham.
When will it open?
The terminal is expected to open this summer.
Which bus routes will service the terminal?
The terminal will be serviced by YRT routes 1 – Highway 7, 2 – Milliken, 9 – 9th Line, 14 – 14th Avenue, 16 – 16th Avenue, 18 – Bur Oak, 25 – Major Mackenzie, 522 – Markham Local, Viva purple/purple A and Mobility On-Request.
In addition, Durham Region Transit (DRT) Specialized Services will connect with YRT’s Mobility On-Request Paratransit service at the terminal.
As part of future plans, Durham Region Transit (DRT) and GO Transit will extend services to the terminal. No timelines of future service expansion by DRT and GO are available at this time.
What amenities does the terminal have?
Cornell Bus Terminal’s attractive modern design includes 11 bus bays, weather-protected and heated waiting areas, welcoming pedestrian plazas under beautiful wooden trellises, large planters, bike racks, a passenger pickup and drop-off area, indoor seating, washrooms, and space for future retail.
Passengers may access the terminal by walking, cycling, taking transit, or being dropped off.
Who does Cornell Bus Terminal serve?
Integrated into the heart of the Cornell Centre community, this terminal is designed to connect and serve those who live and work in the Markham area and beyond. Strategically located near the eastern border of York Region and the western border of Durham Region, the terminal provides an accessible connection to local transit and essential infrastructure and institutions—it’s just a 2-minute walk from Markham Stouffville Hospital and Cornell Community Centre and Library.
The Cornell Bus Terminal enables transit access to York Region’s rapid transit network, including 34 kilometres of completed bus rapidways that connect busy urban centres in Markham, Richmond Hill, Vaughan, and Newmarket.
How does the new terminal affect commuters on YRT and Viva?
The terminal offers many amenities and provides customers with greater comfort, convenience, and accessibility. Customers will be able to find their way to their bus by means of clearly posted, real-time route signs throughout the terminal.
Is there an area for picking up and dropping off people at the bus terminal?
Passenger pick-up and drop-off is located on southbound Diamondwood Avenue, along the east side of the bus terminal with 12 spaces.
Is there parking at the terminal?
There is no parking at the terminal. Cornell Bus Terminal is a part of the transit-oriented development in the Cornell Centre community. Rather than parking, customers can access the terminal by taking transit, walking, cycling or being dropped off.
The terminal is designed to be accessible from every direction to pedestrians, cyclists and transit customers. The passenger pick-up and drop-off area is located along the east wall of the terminal and includes 12 spaces.
How are cyclists accommodated at the new terminal? Can they ride to it and is there a place to lock your bike?
The terminal can be accessed by bike lanes planned for the north and south sides of Rustle Woods Avenue between Ninth Line and Diamondwood Road. These lanes will include pavement markings and signage for cyclists, as well as new street lighting. Bike racks are conveniently located on both the north and south plazas.
Can I pay my YRT fare without PRESTO? Can I buy a ticket at Cornell Bus Terminal?
Customers can also pay their fare using the YRT Pay or Transit app, available for free in the App Store or Google Play.
Exact cash fare is also accepted on any YRT bus. If you do not have exact change or need a ticket to board Viva, you can purchase a ticket using debit or credit from a oneRide fare machine; however, we encourage customers to use contactless forms of payment including PRESTO, YRT Pay and Transit apps. These methods also provide discounted prices.
