Liptons Audio Video Unlimited

- From TVs to fully integrated ‘smart homes’ -

Imagine everything in your house – the sound system, the TVs, the lights, the heating and air conditioning – being controlled with the touch of your fingertips on your tablet computer. Lindsay Lipton, owner of Liptons Audio Video Unlimited in Newmarket, can make it happen. His business sells high-quality audio and video equipment, but also addresses the big picture – custom installation of built-in music systems, networking and home automation in client’s homes.

“The trend is integration,” says Lipton. “The Internet of Things, where everything that’s electronic in your house is networked, so they all talk to each other and can be adjusted using your handheld device.“
Everything can be connected – your sound system, thermostat, lights, security, computers – transforming your house into a ‘smart home.’ At Liptons retail store in the Newmarket Plaza, you can experience music and video in homey rooms with leather couches, and imagine what it’d be like in your home. Then Liptons can outline your options and make plans.

“We’re custom-installing built-in music systems and home automation where we go into a house when it’s being built or renovated and pre-wire everything in, so when the house is finished you have speakers in the ceilings throughout the house, with no messy wires,” says Lipton.

The pre-wiring usually takes a day, and the installation another two to three days. A basic home automation starts at under $2000 and goes up from there depending on the degree of automation.

One of their best projects was a 4,500-sq.-ft. penthouse at Toronto’s Trump Tower where they installed home automation, TVs and a distributed music system, where music plays from phones and tablets to speakers. That included about 24 high-quality Bowers and Wilkins speakers in the ceilings, and a Control 4 home automation system to manage the lights and motorized drapes. Everything was controlled by two iPads.

Another project was a custom theatre for a Muskoka home using a 4K movie projector that’s ultra HD and with screens that are 50 to 70 percent larger than a TV. “The screen quality is pretty unbelievable,” says Lipton. That project also included automated lights and the latest Dolby Atmos surround sound system. “The speakers are all around you and above you. If a plane is going by, you can hear it going from the front of the room to the back of the room straight over your head. That’s one of the best-sounding systems we’ve done recently,” says Lipton.

You can hear the reverence in his voice when he talks about sound systems. For Lipton, it’s all about the sound – especially the music. That’s why he got into this business over 30 years ago, as a 17-year-old stereo sales clerk. His passion for music grew into a passion for sound systems.

Later, he was living in Newmarket when the audio-video store he managed shut down. He needed a job, so he made one. Back then, there was no real electronics store in town. The choice for location was Newmarket Plaza or Upper Canada Mall. He chose Newmarket Plaza, and has been there for 32 years.

Back then, business was higher-end home and car stereos, clock radios and TVs.

Mindbody Matters Hypnosis

- make powerful changes in your life -

Are you looking to make changes in your life? If so, Tina Beattie is ready to help.

She has dedicated her life to helping people make changes big and small, from quitting smoking to losing weight, managing stress to dealing with trauma – any aspect of your life where you feel truly stuck.

Her business, Mindbody Matters Hypnosis and TIR, taps into a variety of treatments to help people make changes in their lives, including hypnosis, Neuro-Linguistic Programming and Traumatic Incident Reduction [TIR].

Hypnosis

Tina is a hypnotist but if you’re picturing a stopwatch swinging as you slowly fall into a deep trance, think again. This is modern hypnosis, done simply and powerfully with the nuances of her voice. Her techniques, honed by 11 years in the business, can help you achieve a state of deep relaxation that opens your mind to change. Her manner is calm and soothing, and her office in the historic Denne Building on Davis Drive and Main radiates tranquility with lofty ceilings and white bead board walls.

When a client comes in, Tina helps them get comfortable in the reclining chair with a blanket, and then uses the power of her voice to talk him or her into deep relaxation.

“Hypnosis brings the conscious and subconscious mind closer together,” she says.

Our most deep-seated issues come rooted in the subconscious, she says. For example, many people started smoking in their youth because they think it’s cool. Forty years later, their subconscious still thinks it’s cool. Hypnosis calms the conscious mind, allowing change in the subconscious.

“I have really high results helping people quit smoking,” she says. It only takes three sessions, in just two visits. She tells people to come back if they don’t quit, and usually never sees them again.

Neuro-Linguistic Programming

When a client is hypnotized, Tina uses Neuro-Linguistic Programming [NLP] techniques, such as mimicking the client’s movements in a subtle yet supportive way.

“People use it in sales because you build up a really fast rapport with someone,” says Tina, who is a qualified NLP practitioner. “A salesman may emulate you and you wouldn’t even know he was using NLP. But you may all-of-the-sudden feel really comfortable with that person, like you’ve know them for a long time.”

When you know someone really well, you may find you take bites at the same time when eating together. “That’s rapport you only get when you’re really close to somebody. NLP builds that immediately,” says Tina.

Voice regulation is another NLP technique. If someone is yelling at you, you raise your voice to their level, and then lower it down, Tina says. If that doesn’t work, you raise it again. Eventually they’ll follow.

Traumatic Incident Reduction

Tina is also a certified facilitator of Trauma Incident Reduction [TIR], which she uses to help people deal with things like civil war, rape, the loss of a parent or child, divorce and post-traumatic stress disorder [PTSD].

“Trauma builds a bubble inside us,” says Tina. “That’s why people can be affected by trauma right through their lives. They bubble it off and repress it, and it lives inside them.”

With TIR, Tina leads clients in recounting their traumatic incident, over and over again, until at last the bubble is broken and the trauma loses its hold. “It’s very powerful stuff,” she says.

For more information, Mindbody Matters offers a free initial consultation. Call 905-898-9090 to book your appointment with Tina.

Mindbody Matters Hypnosis and TIR is at 415 Davis Drive [the northwest corner of Davis Drive and Main Street] in the historic Denne Building.  Visit her website, www.mindbodymatters.ca

Serenity Hair and Spa

- downtown chic, uptown convenience -

You don’t have to go all the way to downtown Toronto to be glamorous. A new salon – Serenity Hair and Spa – is bringing that downtown spark uptown, with all the class of a big city establishment.

Opening on Davis Drive in May, Serenity Hair and Spa is your one-stop beauty centre. Not only does it provide a full range of superior salon services, but it’s also a luxurious medical grade spa. The owner, Heidi, has built her career on helping people tap into, and accentuate their beauty.

Her favourite aspect of her business is “when customers walk in, looking like life has beaten them down, and walk out looking and feeling like a million bucks; the best version of themselves, without having to go into a ritzy Toronto salon.”

Heidi has 15 years of beauty industry experience, having worked for Marc Anthony salons, and operated her own salons in Toronto and Stouffville. She started her business on Davis Drive because it’s an up-and-coming part of Newmarket that she believes will be a great place for business, after the construction gives the area a complete facelift.

At Serenity Hair and Spa, services go beyond having your hair beautifully styled to a complete range of beauty treatments that help you look and feel your best, everything from laser skin rejuvenation to hair removal and much more.

You can pamper yourself with body scrubs, manicures and pedicures, or a hot-stone massage.

You can smooth your wrinkles with their most popular treatment, the oxygen facial, which produces immediate changes to the look and feel of your skin. Many other skin treatments are available, including Botox/Juvéderm, microdermabrasion and Environ skin care products, which uses vitamins A, C and E to create a smooth, even, skin texture and tone.

Salon and spa staff at Serenity have strong foundations in their fields, and are constantly educating themselves on the newest technologies, trends and services available. They’re also more than willing to educate you, so you can feel confident to try something on your own.

So when you’re ready to rejuvenate your look, come experience the wow factor right here in Newmarket. Serenity Hair and Spa invites clients to come in and get blown away with their high-class service and metropolitan chic, all in a convenient setting on Davis Drive.

Come see Serenity Hair and Spa at 69 Davis Drive, Unit 3A. You can also visit their website at www.serenitynewmarket.com. Book your appointment by calling 905-830-1555 or emailing Serenity.newmarket@gmail.com.

The Laundromat

It seems nowadays there are never enough hours in a day to get everything done. Cleaning and laundry are often the last things on our minds, but eventually they too need attention. Why not take the laundry that may be piling up to The Laundromat located at 130 Davis Drive, Unit 26. This full service laundromat is open every day from 5:30am-12:30am making it convenient for early risers and nights owls to do their laundry any time of day.

Owners of The Laundromat, Duheng and Kendra Tan love the customer service aspect of their job . “It’s easy to operate as a business, and we really enjoy seeing new and regular customers come in.” said Mr. Tan.

With row upon row of washers and dryers, there are plenty of machines for people to do several loads at once. If you forgot your change and detergent at home, not to worry, you can conveniently get it all onsite. By using the large tables to fold your laundry fresh out of the dryer, it will ensure those wrinkles stay away and you won’t have the hassle of folding when you get home. Wondering how to wash that oversized comforter or duvet that’s too big for your washing machine at home? Bring it down to the industrial size machines at The Laundromat to get it looking clean and smelling fresh again.

If you’re really crunched for time, or let’s be honest just plain don’t want to do it, you can have your laundry outsourced. Between the hours of 7am-4pm you can have your laundry picked up, washed, folded and delivered back to your home. You get professionals to look after your car and your hair, so why not let the experts wash and fold your clothes? It doesn’t get more convenient than that.

The Tan’s have lived in Newmarket for 9 years and enjoy its small town charm and safe feel, while still enjoying the conveniences of a big city. They encourage any new or longtime residents of Newmarket to stop in to The Laundromat at 130 Davis Drive, Unit 26 or give them a call at 289-221-4518 to have your full service laundry done for you. Take the hassle out of laundry day and start enjoying more free time!

Chatters Café & Juice Bar

From the outside, Chatters Café & Juice Bar looks like your average coffee shop. Step inside however, and it’s clear why customers have been returning for the past 10 years and counting. Owner Hadi Haeri’s vision for Chatters was to offer guests a combination of a North American and European café experience. This blend of cultures is what sets Chatters apart.

Guests are welcomed by the aroma of freshly ground coffee, the comfort of plush arm chairs and the warmth of a decorative fireplace. The atmosphere is inviting and reminiscent of a cozy bistro. A couple of times a year, the café also partners with local businesses to support community events. In the past, they’ve hosted an art show, live music performances, and play readings. “I wanted to do something different, to make customers feel like they are in Europe,” says Hadi. “Everything from the music, décor, food and beverages we serve, resemble European coffeehouse culture.”

Aside from the décor, Chatters serves up quality food at affordable prices. Hadi prides himself on offering authentic, freshly-made and never frozen products to his customers. Open 7 days a week, you can stop in for breakfast or lunch prepared fresh by Hadi. He recommends trying the Western omelette or the tomato pesto baguette with grilled vegetables. Other menu options include café staples like soups, salads, gourmet sandwiches and pastries. In addition to their large selection of coffee, Chatters offers a unique assortment of freshly squeezed juices and nutritional drinks.

As a business owner, Hadi is no stranger to working long hours in the food service industry. Yet, nothing beats seeing his customers happy and satisfied. After owning a successful pizza joint in Guelph for about 15 years, Hadi and his family chose Newmarket as the destination for their next business venture. Fast-forward 10 years later to today, where Chatters is still happily catering to the growing Newmarket community. “Serving and getting to know my customers is the best part of being my own boss,” says Hadi.

So the next time you’re in the mood for good coffee, good food and some good company, stop in to Chatters at #79 Davis Drive and visit Hadi – he’ll be more than happy to see you. As the patrons at Chatters told us, “He makes the best sandwiches around!”

This summer, Chatters has teamed up with Dunlop Pharmacy to offer free health seminars. Enjoy the café’s comfortable atmosphere and take advantage of free health information sessions. Call (905) 836-6601 for more information and to register:

Piccola Italia

- big on taste and quantity -

Piccola Italia has been serving residents of Newmarket and the GTA traditional Italian fare for 25 years. Carlo Diflorio purchased Piccola Italia from the previous owner over four years ago to fulfill his lifelong passion of cooking authentic Italian cuisine.

In Italian piccola means small, which fits the size of the quaint, cozy restaurant tucked in the 130 Davis Drive, Newmarket Plaza. However, the comparison to small stops at the door, as Piccola Italia is big on taste and portion size. With over ten years of culinary experience, Chef Carlo satisfies his patron’s appetites and brings to Newmarket an authentic taste of Italy.

Italian food is a staple in households around the world. The comfort of nona’s homemade spaghetti and meatballs has created a long standing tradition that people from all backgrounds have come to enjoy.  It’s that same authentic, comfort food that Carlo creates for his customers at Piccola Italia.  From a variety of pizzas, giant panzerottis, pastas and sandwiches there’s something for everyone.  At Piccola Italia everything is made in-house right down to the homemade sauce. Carlo’s passion for preparing Italian cuisine is evident in each dish he prepares.  “When you put good quality and love into food, you can taste it, you can taste the difference.” said Carlo.

First time visitors to Piccola Italia are forewarned to bring your appetite. Piccola Italia provides a very large quantity of good, quality food for a great price. To help you visualize, the panzerottis are the size of a football and the sandwiches are an arm’s length.  Even with a larger than life appetite, be prepared to bring home leftovers so you can enjoy this great food the next day.

Customers have been returning to Piccola Italia for a number of years and Carlo has had the pleasure of getting to know them and watching their families grow. “Owning a restaurant is hard work and you put in long hours, but it’s absolutely worth it to see customers return and have them tell us how much they enjoyed the authenticity of the food. Customers make us who we are; they make us strive to be better every day.”

The decision to purchase Piccola Italia was in large part due to its location. “After 25 years customers know where we are and how to find us. Even if they lose touch or move away they come back because they are familiar with the location,” said Carlo.
Piccola Italia created an extensive catering menu to provide its authentic food at work or home and for important functions such as weddings, christenings or baby showers. They also cater to several large and small businesses within Newmarket and if you don’t have time to dine in, you can always order from their take-out menu.

Piccola Italia will be expanding its business later this year with a bakery.  It will continue to serve original Italian cuisine and they will also add to their menu an authentic assortment of home baked goods including breads, pastries, cakes, cannoli’s and cookies.

Chef Carlo has seen the Town of Newmarket expand in the last 10 years and has seen an increase of young families new to the area. With the transformation of the Davis Drive rapidway well underway, Chef Carlo believes the facelift is just what Newmarket needed. “It’s a good thing for Newmarket, rapid transit is an important step to address the transit needs of our flourishing community. I look forward to what the future will bring when the rapidway is complete.”

The next time you’re craving an authentic taste of Italy, visit Chef Carlo and the Piccola Italia staff at 130 Davis Drive and don’t forget to bring your appetite because there is nothing piccola about the authentic food and portion sizes. Visit their website at: http://www.piccolaitalia.ca/

Rehab Connections

- your connection to better health -

For those who have experienced a sore neck or back or suffered an injury know muscle and joint pain can be unbearable. It may even keep you from doing things you would typically enjoy. Rehab Connections has been relieving clients of muscle pain and assisting with injury recovery in Newmarket for seven years. Located at 83 Davis Drive, Dr. Steven Chiu incorporates the latest technological instruments and therapies available to assist patients with rehabilitation.

Dr. Chiu treats all muscle and joint injuries and fully understands the imbalances that occur within the body. In his practice, Dr. Chiu incorporates a holistic approach to the recovery process by combining a soft tissue technique called Trigenics® Muscle Reprogramming to reactivate or reprogram muscles with chiropractic manipulation.

As part of the treatment provided, Rehab Connections uses a cold therapeutic laser to reduce inflammation and promote healing. According to Dr. Chiu, “lasers are quickly becoming a popular method of treatment, replacing traditional technology such as ultra sound or electrical stimulation”. He also indicated, lasers are very easy to use and the patient sees better results in a shorter time. For those patients who suffer from injuries and inflammation such as: arthritis, tendonitis, and bursitis, Dr. Chiu uses the therapeutic laser to alleviate their discomfort and accelerate healing.

Rehab Connections also uses an advanced form of chiropractic manipulation using a computerized system called the Sigma Instrument Methods® [formerly, known as the Proadjuster®]. The Sigma Methods performs spinal analysis and adjusts joint misalignments. Manual manipulation including twisting, turning or cracking is not required with many patients. Dr. Chiu prefers to use this form of technology as he believes the treatment is consistent, measurable and effective for patients of all ages.

At Rehab Connections it’s more than using the state-of-the-art technology to heal patients, “it’s fundamental to teach an understanding of how and why the injury occurred.  We use therapies and tools for correction and educate patients on how to take corrective measures,” says Dr. Chiu. “I strive to provide the education and tools necessary to personally empower patients with the ability to attain optimum energy and health.”

For those suffering with muscle or joint pain, Dr. Chiu offers this advice, “if you’ve received treatment but haven’t seen the results you are hoping for, don’t give up.  There are health care practitioners who take different approaches and try unique measures. Education is an important component in assisting with the recovery process. Stay patient, relief is out there.”

Dr. Chiu has seen Newmarket’s population grow over the years and has particularly seen an increase in young families in Newmarket. Dr. Chiu believes the vivaNext plan to bring rapid transit to Newmarket is an important step to address the transit needs of a growing community.

As much as Davis Drive construction is disruptive right now, Dr. Chiu looks forward to seeing the complete rapidway transformation and is encouraged by the progress the rapidway has made so far.  He attributes a growing community to a successful community.

The full range of treatment options provided by Rehab Connections is available at www.rehabconnections.ca. Visit them at 83 Davis Drive from 9:30am -6:30pm Tuesdays & Thursdays and Friday afternoons by appointment.

Vince’s Deli

For over 55 years, Vince’s Deli has been a small European grocery store offering exceptional food and providing a slice of “home country”.  Boris and his wife Sonja purchased the already popular Vince’s Deli in 1985 and have continued to grow the business over the last 28 years. In 2000, they relocated to a larger space in the 130 Davis Drive plaza.

Vince’s Deli is a niche business serving customers not only from Newmarket, but also Markham, Stouffville, Keswick, Tottenham, Barrie, all the way up to the Bruce Peninsula.  The Deli caters to a cliental looking for specific products that remind them of home.  From the homemade schnitzel that Sonja prepares to the fresh pastries and desserts that are made onsite, one trip to Vince’s Deli and you’ll see this is not your ordinary deli.  For Boris it’s not just about food, it’s about service and experience.  “We have always gone that extra mile for our customers, whether it’s carrying out groceries, helping customers fill out pension forms or passport applications.  Our customers are our friends who continue to visit us even after they have moved out of the town.”

Boris has seen Newmarket change and grow over the last 28 years from a small town with only one other restaurant on Davis Drive, into a multicultural town with an influx of new cultures and establishments.  They chalk up the success and longevity of Vince’s Deli to providing hands on customer service that a small business can offer.  They also provide additional services such as ethnic newspapers and a place for old friends to meet and socialize.

The Piano Studio

The Piano Studio was established out of Jeanne Fast’s love of music and her many years of experience in both retail and education.  Jeanne started the business in 1997 as a private home studio with 45 students.  Since then it has grown to two stand-alone locations in Newmarket and Aurora with 25 classrooms, 900 enrolled students, and over 30 qualified instructors.  Run by Jeanne and her family, the Piano Studio also includes a showroom with an extensive line of instruments for sale, such as quality acoustic upright and grand pianos, as well as a large selection of digital pianos from Roland and Yamaha.  In fact, they offer one of the best selections of digital pianos in the GTA.

The Fast family has turned their love of music into a commitment to teach students of all ages and skill levels in a professional and fun way.  “We believe that learning should be fun, interactive, and engaging,” said Jeanne’s son Jared.  “We adhere to the highest standards. Our classrooms are equipped with the latest technology and quality resources to meet the needs of our students.”  Adding voice, guitar, violin, drums, harp, flute and music theory lessons to the music programs have provided an even richer musical experience for students.  The Piano Studio also offers Yamaha Group Programs for young children, and a variety of other fun group programs including Rock Bands and a String Ensemble.

For many, there are great benefits to playing an instrument. It is a great brain stimulator and is very relaxing.  It is never too late to start playing.  It is recommended that first time students start on an instrument they find interesting or have a passion for, this will keep them practicing, improving, and enjoying music.

The Fasts believe Newmarket is the perfect home for the Piano Studio.  After travelling across Canada they decided to plant roots in Newmarket as it felt more like home and it was a community they knew they wanted to establish their business in.  “The rapidway on Davis Drive will be an added benefit for businesses as it will make commuting across town a lot easier and faster for our customers,” Jared added.

The Piano Studio's professionally trained and courteous staff are here to assist with all questions related to piano sales, service, or any of their lesson programs.  For more information visit their website at www.thepianostudio.com, or visit them at one of their two locations: 17665 Leslie St, Newmarket; and 255 Industrial Parkway South, Unit 2, Aurora.

Tap & Vine Cellars

It was a love of wine and the winemaking process that inspired Vince and Arlene Majauskas to recently purchase Tap & Vine Cellars. Arlene was one of the original customers when Tap & Vine was opened by Lorraine Miller and her husband, Ward, 18 years ago. The Majauskas joke, "we enjoyed the experience of wine making so much, we bought the company.

Originally started as a wine and beer making facility, hence the name Tap & Vine Cellars, the Millers discovered over the years the demand for beer making just wasn't as strong as the wine. Making the choice to become an exclusive wine making establishment was a strategic business decision that ended up paying off.

In addition to offering cost-effectiveness, a unique experience and a stress-free pastime, winemaking can be a social event allowing friends and couples to spend time together, catch up and make great wine at the same time. Many of the clientele are women who make a social evening out of getting together to explore a common interest in wine. Vince and Arlene believe the refinement and classiness of Tap & Vine Cellars distinguishes it from others.

The Majauskas always follow the trends and keep up with the latest flavours. So whether you prefer red, white, rose or a unique blend of wine, Tap & Vine can assist you in making whatever your taste buds prefer.

Vince and Arlene aspire to provide customers with the same great experience they have grown accustomed to. They look forward to the completion of the Davis Drive rapidway, believing the look and feel of the new rapidway will entice new clientele and traffic into the stores on Davis Drive.

Visit Tap & Vine and start enjoying the benefits of winemaking. The wines are 100% guaranteed and there is always an expert on-site to give you a helping hand.

All Pro Source for Sports

Gerry Ertl has owned All Pro Source for Sports in Newmarket for 29 years. "It started off much smaller ... and it built up over the years."

He attributes his success to their extensive hockey knowledge. "When people have questions or need answers, they come to us."

He is amazed at how the town has grown since he first started out. "It's sort of full, so at some point it has to go up, especially the Yonge and Davis area."

He has just moved his business to a more open space, across the street and 75 yards south at 38 Parkside Drive, Unit 5. "After 29 years, it's difficult to move. However, we have a new look."

Gerry, Darren and staff invite customers to come see the new store. "I think they'll be very, very surprised ... how big we really are and how committed we are to hockey."

Newmarket Chamber of Commerce

Debra Scott has lived in Newmarket since 1983 and in that time has seen a lot of change.

But the vivaNext project will be one of the largest infrastructure projects that her town has ever seen. "Certainly there will be impacts, but this is a chance for us to redesign the look of Newmarket," says Scott. It will be "rather exciting to walk out our front door and hop on viva."

Not only is Scott a long-time resident of Newmarket, but she is also the president and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce. She works with over 700 members from all areas of business, acting as their voice. "My role is the messaging," says Scott, who sees herself as the central point of contact. "Newmarket is a growing community and it is becoming the centre of northern York Region."

This is a chance for us to redesign the look of Newmarket.

She said due to a lack of vacant land and the town being slated for intensification under the provincial plan, it will need to grow up instead of build out. "We are in the role of understanding that this (vivaNext) needs to happen," she says. It is up to her to discuss the long-term benefits for the town with the members of the Chamber.

But Scott is not alone in this, vivaNext has appointed a community liaison, who will be working with Scott and all community members during the process. "It's nice to see that vivaNext is listening and understanding," she says. This project is bigger than others in the past and it is commendable for the Region to appoint a community liaison.

Warriner Chiropractic

Dr. Brent Warriner became fascinated with chiropractic as a child, after attending an appointment with his father. Now, having been in the business for over 12 years, and with three young children of his own, Brent still loves the field. “What I find most rewarding is actually just meeting so many different types of people and just helping people…having people basically crawl in here and then they walk out. That is very rewarding.”

With his associates, massage therapist and acupuncturist Maggie Lopes, and naturopathic doctor, Dr. Vicki Comeau, Brent recently moved to a new location within Newmarket – 17915 Leslie Street.

Brent originally chose Newmarket as the location for Warriner Chiropractic in order to be close to his family. The community’s development has been great for business, as Brent has seen his clientele increase with Newmarket’s growth.

With the vivaNext plan bringing rapid transit to Newmarket, and the community poised for significant improvements, Brent believes that Newmarket will have a stronger identity, something he feels the town has been lacking. As someone who enjoys the outdoors, Brent is excited about streetscape improvements and having a more walkable community, especially for his kids. “I’m looking forward to trees, the centre median and nice flowers. What I would like to have is a pleasant walk…instead of having to drive everywhere.”

Pita Pit

As more Canadians become dedicated to living healthy lifestyles, on-the-go restaurants that provide nutritious options are becoming increasingly popular.  Jason Muise, owner and operator of Pita Pit in Newmarket, says a menu of health-friendly offerings of pitas and smoothies is what makes his business successful. “As people become more aware of nutrition, our healthy choices will continue to flourish,” says Jason. We’re fast, fresh, healthy and fun.”

Pita Pit, a Canadian-owned and operated franchise, has 135 locations across the country and continues to grow. Jason has owned the Newmarket location since 2006 and hopes to open a second location in Aurora. “[Pita Pit] is the original pita franchise,” says Jason. “We are the world’s biggest pita franchise and we were ranked #124 in Entrepreneur.com’s 2011 list of the top 500 global franchises, and #1 in the Pita category.”

Besides fresh and healthful food, Pita Pit also believes in outstanding customer service and connecting with the community. Pita Pit currently caters to a dozen elementary schools in the Newmarket area, a number that will increase in September.

As Newmarket undergoes a transformation, one which will revitalize Davis Drive, Jason knows his business is in the right place. “Like in most businesses, location is crucial. This location, right at Yonge and Davis, will always be a focal point of Newmarket.” says Jason. “Once all the construction is done, this intersection will be a major point of access for anybody in Newmarket. Residents of Newmarket are active people and a healthy choice like ours is only becoming more popular.”
