traffic signal activations and median removals on Yonge in Newmarket

Starting tomorrow, crews will be activating the temporary traffic signals at the Yonge Street and Eagle Street intersection and removing additional medians on Yonge in Newmarket. Please see below for further details.

On Thursday, Apr. 27, crews will be activating the temporary traffic signal at the Yonge and Eagle intersection during off peak hours [9am-3pm].

work dates*: Thursday, Apr. 27
work hours: 9am-3pm

  • During off-peak hours, the traffic lights will be out of service in all directions at the Yonge and Eagle intersection. Expect to see the lights out or flashing.
  • There will be several intermittent lane closures.
  • Paid duty police officers will be on site to direct traffic until the traffic signals are restored.
  • Vehicle access to Yonge and Eagle will be maintained at all times.
  • The sidewalks around the work areas may be temporarily closed at times. Personnel will be on site to guide pedestrians around the work zone as necessary.

median removals

Crews will be removing median strips at the Yonge and Clearmeadow Boulevard/William Roe Boulevard and the Yonge and Eagle intersections.

work dates*: Thursday, Apr. 27 and Friday, Apr. 28
work hours: 7am-7pm

  • This work will require one northbound and one southbound lane closure closest to the median strip.
  • Median strips will be removed, one area at a time, and then each removal area will be paved in multiple layers.

*Please note: As with all construction projects, some work may be re-scheduled due to weather. We’ll provide advanced notice when possible. Please also give yourself enough time to get to your destination, and remember to reduce your speed through construction zones.
