final phase of hydro pole installation on Yonge Street between Eagle Street & Davis Drive

January 26, 2017

Now in the final phase of hydro pole installation, crews will be installing approximately 50 new hydro poles, removing old poles and stringing cables along Yonge. Work will start at Eagle and head north to Davis.

work date*: Monday, Feb. 6, until mid-April
work hours*: 7am–7pm

pole installation details at Yonge and Eagle:

  • From Monday, Feb. 6 to Thursday, Feb. 9, crews will be installing hydro poles on the east side of Yonge at Eagle.
    • NOTE: On Tuesday Feb. 8, Eagle will be temporarily closed between Yonge and Dixon Blvd from 7:30am-4pm to allow crews enough space to remove old and install new hydro poles. Detour signs will be in place to help guide drivers.
  • On Tuesday, Feb. 21 and Wednesday, Feb. 22, crews will be installing four hydro poles west of Yonge, just south of Eagle.
  • On Tuesday, Feb. 28, crews will be installing two hydro poles on the west side of Yonge at Eagle St W.

what you need to know:

  • For each pole installation, traffic will be reduced to one lane around the work area to set up the crane and deliver the poles.
  • For everyone’s safety, as each pole is hoisted high in the air and placed on its foundation, Yonge will be closed in both directions for up to 15 minutes.
  • Traffic control staff or paid duty police officers will be on site to direct traffic.
  • Sidewalks will be closed around the work areas. Directional signs will guide pedestrians to the nearest open sidewalk.
  • Please give yourself enough time to get to your destination, and remember to reduce your speed through construction zones.
  • There will be construction-related noise and dust from equipment and trucks. At times, generators will be used to maintain power as crews transfer wires to the new poles. These generators will be in operation 24 hours a day while the wire transfer takes place.

*Please note: As with all construction projects, some work may be re-scheduled due to weather. We’ll provide advanced notice when possible.
