retaining wall construction at Yonge and Mulock

October 14, 2016

As part of the transformation of Yonge Street in Newmarket, we will be building a number of retaining walls along Yonge. Crews will begin building a retaining wall at the northeast corner of the Yonge and Mulock Drive intersection starting on Monday. Retaining walls are built to provide stability between two areas of land at different heights, with the wall supporting the higher level of ground.

work dates*: Starting Monday, October 17 for approximately four months
work hours*: 7am–7pm

what you need to know:

  • The northbound curb lane on Yonge will be closed intermittently in the work area during off-peak hours for the duration of the work.
  • Temporary sidewalk closures around the work zone will be required. Please follow signs to help guide you to your destination.
  • If required, traffic control personnel will be on site to guide pedestrians around the work zone.
  • There will be noise, dust, and intermittent vibrations associated with this work.
  • Wherever possible, bus stops will remain open. If a bus stop is closed, directional signs will guide pedestrians to the nearest open bus stop.

* Please note: As with other road construction projects, some work may be rescheduled due to weather. We’ll provide advance notice whenever possible.

We understand that construction can be disruptive and we thank you for your patience. If you have questions about the Yonge Street rapidway project please contact:
