project milestone: paving Yonge Street in Newmarket

This week, crews reached a project milestone as they finished widening the road and installing new curbs on the west side of Yonge Street from Sawmill Valley Drive/Savage Road to Eagle Street. Starting Tuesday, August 29, crews will start paving the base-layer asphalt on Yonge in sections. The final coat of asphalt will be paved near the completion of the rapidway.

work dates*: Tuesday, August 29 – Thursday, August 31
work hours*: 7am-7pm

what you need to know:

  • To accommodate this work, southbound Yonge will be reduced to one lane in the work area during off-peak hours [9:30am-3pm].
  • Crews will return at a later date to pave the side streets off Yonge and connect each driveway to Yonge.
  • Paving is heavily dependent on good dry weather and specific temperatures. If the weather does not permit, paving operations will be postponed.
  • Traffic control staff and paid duty police officers will be onsite to direct traffic for the duration of this work.
  • Where sidewalks are affected, directional signs will guide pedestrians to the nearest open sidewalk.
  • Due to the nature of this work, there will be construction-related noise and dust from equipment and trucks.

*Please note: As with all construction projects, some work may be re-scheduled due to weather. We’ll provide advanced notice when possible. Watch twitter.com/vivanext for last-minute updates.
