description of the road widening process:

  • In order to accommodate multiple work activities related to this construction, traffic lanes will be shifted, reduced and narrowed at times. If it rains on Monday night, May 8, the work will start on the following night.
  • Painting lines on the road and shifting traffic east on Yonge.
  • Remove existing pavement, curbs and sidewalks on the west side, where required.
  • Install storm sewer, gutters and new curbs where required.
  • Backfill and pave the area.

general impacts:

  • To prepare for the traffic shift, crews will be working overnight [7pm–7am] on May 8 and May 9 to line paint the road between Sawmill Valley and Eagle. If it rains on Monday night, May 8, the work will start on the following night.
  • During the line painting work, north and southbound traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction.
  • Once line painting is complete, traffic lanes will be shifted east on Yonge. Two lanes will be maintained in both directions.
  • Traffic control staff and paid duty police officers will be on site as required.
  • Where bus stops and sidewalks are affected, directional signs will guide pedestrians to the nearest open bus stop or sidewalk.
  • Access will be maintained to properties in work areas; however, driveways may be reduced or temporarily disrupted. Advance notice will be provided wherever possible.
  • There will be construction-related noise and dust from equipment and trucks.
  • Please remember to reduce your speed through construction zones and be mindful of traffic shifts and signs that will help guide you along your way. Always drive with care and give yourself extra time to get to your destination.

*Please Note: As with all construction projects, some work may be re-scheduled due to weather. We’ll provide advanced notice when possible.

We understand that construction can be disruptive and we thank you for your patience. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
