signal activation
With utility relocation underway in Richmond Hill, residents can expect to see a number of items underway this week along Yonge Street. See below for more information.
utility installation on Hopkins at Yonge
Starting tomorrow, crews will be installing a duct bank [a structure which gathers together and encases utility cables] across Hopkins Street, at Yonge Street, starting on the southwest corner, working north.
work dates*: Tuesday, February 13, for approximately 4 days
work hours: 7am-7pm
what you need to know:
stage 1:

Crews will be installing a duct bank across Hopkins, starting on the southwest corner, working north.

To accommodate this work, traffic on Hopkins will be reduced to one westbound and one eastbound lane.

Crews will backfill and plate the work area before moving to the second stage.
stage 2:

Crews will progress north across Hopkins.

To accommodate this work, traffic on Hopkins will be reduced to one westbound and one eastbound lane.

Once complete, crews will pave the entire work area.
other details:

Wherever possible, sidewalks will remain open. If a sidewalk is closed, directional signage will be onsite to guide pedestrians to the nearest open sidewalk.

Traffic control staff will be onsite, as required.

Access to businesses and properties near the work area will be maintained.

Please give yourself enough time to get to your destination, and remember to reduce your speed through construction zones.

Due to the nature of this work, at times, there will be construction-related noise and dust from equipment and trucks.
traffic signal activation at Yonge and Nottingham/Devonsleigh
Tomorrow, crews will be activating temporary traffic signals at the intersection of Yonge Street and Nottingham Drive/Devonsleigh Boulevard in Richmond Hill. Temporary disruptions to the traffic lights will be required.

work hours: 9am-5pm
what you need to know:

Traffic lights will be out or flashing in all directions at the intersection of Yonge and Nottingham/Devonsleigh from 9am-1pm.

Paid duty police officers will be onsite to direct traffic until the traffic signals are restored.

Once activated, crews will remove the old traffic poles and equipment.

Vehicle access to Yonge and Nottingham/Devonsleigh will be maintained at all times.

Sidewalks around the intersections may be temporarily closed. Where sidewalks are closed directional signs will guide pedestrians to the nearest open sidewalk.
