construction activities next week in Richmond Hill

With utility relocation underway in Richmond Hill, residents can expect to see a number of items underway along Yonge Street. See below for more information.

hydro work at Yonge and Carrville

On Monday, hydro crews will be removing existing power cables and hydro poles on the northwest and southwest corners of the Yonge and Carrville Road intersection.

work dates*: Monday, October 2
work hours: 7am-7pm

what you need to know

  • Eastbound and westbound traffic on Carrville, at Yonge, will be stopped 7 times for up to 5 minutes between the hours of 9:30am-3:30pm.
  • During the 5 minute stoppages, motorists will not be permitted to turn onto Carrville from Yonge.
  • Traffic control staff and paid duty police officers will be onsite for the duration of this work.
  • Sidewalks will be temporarily closed around the work zone. Directional signs will help guide pedestrians to the nearest open sidewalk.
  • Some bus stop relocations may be required for this work. Where bus stops are affected, directional signs will guide pedestrians to the nearest bus stop.
  • Please expect delays and give yourself enough time to get to your destination, and remember to reduce your speed through construction zones.
  • There will be construction-related noise from equipment and trucks.

water main installation on Yonge between Major Mackenzie and Hopkins

Water main crews are continuing to progress along Yonge Street. Starting Monday, crews will be installing a water main on the west side of Yonge between Hopkins Street and Major Mackenzie Drive West. Please see below for further details.

work dates*: Monday, October 2 – Friday, October 6
work hours: 7am-7pm

what you need to know

  • Crews will be trenching along the west side of Yonge, starting at Hopkins and heading north.
  • Yonge will be reduced to one southbound lane [9:30am-7pm] between Hopkins and Major Mackenzie for the duration of work.
  • Traffic control staff and paid duty police officers will be onsite as required.
  • The sidewalk on the west side of Yonge will be temporarily closed around the work zone for the duration of this work. Signage will be onsite to redirect pedestrians to the open sidewalk on the east side of Yonge.
  • Access to businesses and properties near work areas will be maintained.
