update: utility installation on Yonge at Bernard

Hello,

Crews are now scheduled to install a duct bank [a structure which gathers together and encases telecommunications and hydro cables] on the east side of Yonge Street at Bernard Avenue starting Monday, July 31.

work dates*: Monday, July 31, for approximately two weeks 
work hours: 7am-7pm

  • Crews will work from north to south through the Yonge and Bernard intersection.

stage 1:

  • To accommodate work on the northeast corner of the intersection, westbound traffic on Bernard will be reduced one shared thru, left- and right-turn lane.
  • The left turn lane onto Yonge from Canyon Hill will be closed for the duration of this work.
  • The work area will be covered with a steel plate at the end of each work day. Lanes will be re-opened each evening and weekend by approximately 7pm.
  • On Friday, August 4, all lanes on Canyon Hill and Bernard will be open except the right-turn lane from Bernard. The northeast exit from the 11005 Yonge plaza will also remain closed during this time.

stage 2:

  • To accommodate work on the southeast corner of the intersection, traffic onto Bernard from Canyon Hill will be shifted to the westbound lanes. Directional signage will be in place to guide motorists.
  • Traffic on Bernard will be reduced to one shared thru lane, right- and left-turn lane onto Yonge.
  • The right-turn lane onto Yonge will be maintained from Canyon Hill.

Other details:

  • A temporary sidewalk will be installed on the northeast corner of the intersection. Directional signage will be onsite to guide pedestrians.
  • Traffic control staff and paid duty police officers will be onsite for the duration of this work.
  • Some weekend work may be required.
  • Due to the nature of this work, at times, there will be construction-related noise and dust from equipment and trucks.
