hydro pole installation on Yonge Street, north of Gamble Road/19th Avenue

To prepare for the widening of Yonge Street, hydro crews will install new hydro poles set further back from the road on the east and west side of Yonge, just north of Gamble Road/19th Avenue. After the poles have been installed, existing power lines will be transferred to the new poles.

work dates*: Friday, Feb . 10, for approximately two months
work hours: 7am-7pm

what you need to know:

  • Crews will excavate pits and install new wooden poles.
  • Hydro service will be transferred from the old poles to the new poles.
  • Existing poles will be removed and holes backfilled.
  • Crews will dig trenches in select areas to connect underground service lines.
  • Temporary north and southbound curb lane closures will be required around work areas.
  • Alectra Utilities (formerly PowerStream) will advise clients of any planned disruption in advance.
  • Wherever possible, bus stops and sidewalks will remain open. If a bus stop or sidewalk is closed, directional signs will guide pedestrians to the nearest open bus stop or sidewalk.
  • Due to the nature of this work, at times, there will be construction-related noise and dust from equipment and trucks.
  • Weekend work will be required.
  • Please give yourself enough time to get to your destination, and remember to reduce your speed through construction zones.

*Please note: As with all construction projects, some work may be re-scheduled due to weather. We’ll provide advanced notice when possible.
