duct bank installation across Yonge at Gamble/19th

Crews will be installing a duct bank [a structure which gathers together and encases utility cables] across Yonge Street just north of Gamble Road/19th Avenue.

work dates*: Monday, Jan. 30 for approximately two weeks
work hours: 7am-7pm

stage 1 – approximately three days

  • Crews will begin working on the west side of Yonge. Southbound traffic on Yonge will be reduced to one through lane around the work zone. The southbound left turn lane onto 19th will remain open.
  • During peak commuting hours [6am-9:30am], two southbound through traffic lanes will be maintained on Yonge.
  • Access to the bus stop on Yonge, just north of Gamble will remain open during this work. Temporary southbound pull-in for bus loading and unloading are available.

stage 2 – approximately three days

  • As crews trench across Yonge, southbound traffic will be reduced to one through lane and the right turn lane to Gamble from Yonge will be open.
  • During peak commuting hours [6am-9:30am], two southbound through traffic lanes will be maintained on Yonge.
  • Yonge will be reduced to one lane northbound during this stage.

stage 3 – approximately three days

  • As crews continue to work east across the intersection, the northbound curb lane on Yonge and westbound right turn lane on 19th will be closed for the duration of this stage. All other Yonge lanes will remain open.

what you need to know:

  • Please expect delays and give yourself extra time to get to your destination.
  • Sidewalks may be closed around work zones. Directional signs will guide pedestrians to the nearest open sidewalk.
  • Due to the nature of this work, at times, there will be construction-related noise, dust and vibration from equipment and trucks.

*Please note: As with all construction projects, some work may be re-scheduled due to weather. We’ll provide advanced notice when possible.
