retaining wall construction at Yonge and Gamble

September 6, 2016

As part of the transformation of Yonge Street in Richmond Hill, we will be building a number of retaining walls along Yonge. Crews will begin building a retaining wall on the west side of Yonge between Gamble Road and Nottingham Drive starting on Wednesday. Retaining walls are built to provide stability between two areas of land at different heights, with the wall supporting the higher level of ground.

work dates*: starting Wednesday, September 7 for approximately three months*
work hours*: 7am-7pm

what you need to know:

  • The southbound curb lane on Yonge will be closed intermittently in the work area during off-peak hours for the duration of the work.
  • The sidewalk on the west side of Yonge Street from Gamble to Nottingham will be closed for the duration of this work. The east side will remain open.
  • Please follow signs to help guide you to your destination.
  • Bus stops may be relocated or closed as work progresses. Look for signs and follow directions.
  • There will be noise, dust, and intermittent vibrations associated with this work.

*Please note: As with all construction projects, some work may be rescheduled due to weather. We’ll provide advance notice whenever possible.
