road widening begins along Yonge Street in Richmond Hill

April 6, 2018

The transformation is underway along Yonge Street in Richmond Hill. Crews have been busy installing and relocating underground infrastructure, including hydro and telecommunications, and are scheduled to start road widening and storm sewer installation on the east side of Yonge, between the Hwy 407 off-ramp and the Yonge Connector Road, next week. Please see below for more details.

work dates*: Monday, April 9, for approximately two months
work hours*: 7am-7pm, weekdays

description of the road widening process:

  • In order to accommodate multiple work activities related to this construction, northbound Yonge will be reduced to two lanes from south of the Hwy 407 off-ramp to the Yonge Connector for the duration of this work.
  • Crews will remove existing pavement, curbs and sidewalk within the work area, where required.
  • Storm sewer, catch basins and new curbs will be installed where required.
  • Crews will then backfill, grade and pave base layer asphalt in this area.

general impacts:

  • Where bus stops and sidewalks are affected, directional signs will guide pedestrians to the nearest open bus stop or sidewalk.
  • There will be construction-related noise and dust from equipment and trucks.
  • Some weekend and overnight work will be required.
  • Please expect delays and give yourself enough time to get to your destination. Remember to reduce your speed and drive with care through construction zones.

*Please note: As with all construction projects, some work may be re-scheduled due to weather. We’ll provide advance notice when possible. Watch twitter.com/vivanext for last-minute updates.
