utility installation on Gamble at Yonge

Starting tomorrow, crews will be installing a duct bank [a structure which gathers together and encases telecommunication cables] across Gamble Road, at Yonge Street, starting on the northwest corner, working south.

work dates*: Tuesday, February 27 – Thursday, March 1
work hours*: 7am-7pm

what you need to know:

stage 1:

  • Crews will be installing a duct bank across Gamble, starting on the northwest corner, working south.
  • To accommodate this work, westbound traffic will be reduced to one thru-lane, within the work zone, east and west of the intersection.
  • Dedicated right- and left-turn lanes onto Yonge will be maintained for the duration of this work.
  • Crews will backfill and steel plate the work area at the end of each day.

stage 2:

  • Crews will progress south across Gamble.
  • To accommodate this work, eastbound traffic on Gamble will be reduced to a shared left- and thru-lane.
  • Westbound traffic on 19th will also be reduced to one thru-lane. The dedicated left and right onto Yonge, from 19th, will be maintained.
  • Crews will backfill and steel plate the work area at the end of each day.

stage 3:

  • Crews will then install the duct bank on the southwest corner of the intersection.
  • To accommodate this work, eastbound traffic on Gamble will be reduced to one shared thru- and right-turn lane. The dedicated left-turn lane onto Yonge will be maintained.
  • The sidewalk located on the southwest corner of the intersection will be temporarily closed for the duration of this work.
  • After this work area has been backfilled, crews will pave the entire work area.

other details:

  • Paid duty police officers will be onsite for the duration of this work.
  • Access to businesses and properties near the work area will be maintained.
  • Wherever possible, sidewalks will remain open. If a sidewalk is closed, directional signage will be onsite to guide pedestrians to the nearest open sidewalk.
  • Please expect delays, give yourself enough time to get to your destination, and remember to reduce your speed through construction zones.
