utility installation on Elgin Mills at Yonge
Crews are progressing with the installation of utilities along Yonge Street in Richmond Hill. Starting Monday, crews will install a duct bank [a structure which gathers together and encases utility cables] across Elgin Mills Road West, starting on the northwest corner, working south.
work dates*: Monday, December 4, for approximately 2 weeks
work hours: 7am-7pm, with staging in place 24/7
stage 1:

Crews will be installing a duct bank across Elgin Mills, starting on the northwest corner, working south.

To accommodate this work, westbound traffic on Elgin Mills will be reduced to one thru-lane, within the work zone, east and west of the intersection.

Dedicated right- and left-turn lanes onto Yonge will be maintained for the duration of this work.

The sidewalk located on the northwest corner of the intersection will be temporarily closed for the duration of this work.

Crews will backfill and pave the work area before moving to the second stage.
stage 2:

Crews will progress south across Elgin Mills.

To accommodate this work, eastbound and westbound traffic on Elgin Mills will be reduced to one thru-lane, within the work zone, east and west of the intersection.

Dedicated right- and left-turn lanes onto Elgin Mills West will be maintained for the duration of this work.

Crews will backfill and pave the work area before moving to the third stage.
stage 3:

Crews will move to the southwest corner of the Yonge and Elgin Mills intersection.

Eastbound traffic on Elgin Mills West will be reduced to one shared thru- and right-turn lane. A dedicated left-turn lane, onto Yonge, will be maintained for the duration of this work.

Follow directional signage for bus stop pick-up on the southwest corner of the intersection.

The west side crosswalk will be closed for the duration of this work. Pedestrians are encouraged to cross Elgin Mills on the east side of the intersection.

Traffic control staff and paid duty police officers will be onsite, as required.

Access to businesses and properties near the work area will be maintained.

Please expect delays and give yourself enough time to get to your destination, and remember to reduce your speed through construction zones.

Due to the nature of this work, at times, there will be construction-related noise and dust from equipment and trucks.
