update: utility installation on Yonge at Northern Heights

November 16, 2017

Crews are now scheduled to install a duct bank [a structure which gathers together and encases utility cables] on the east side of Yonge Street, just north of Northern Heights Drive, starting on Monday, November 20. Two northbound and two southbound lanes of traffic will be maintained on Yonge.

work dates*: Monday, November 20 for approximately two weeks
work hours: 7am-7pm

what you need to know:

  • To accommodate this work, northbound traffic on Yonge will be shifted to the west overnight [8pm-2am] on Thursday, November 16 and crews will paint new traffic lines.
  • Some areas of the Yonge sidewalk on the east side around the work zone will be temporarily closed. Directional signage will be onsite to guide pedestrians to the nearest open sidewalk.
  • Some bus stop relocations may be required for this work. Where bus stops are affected, directional signs will guide pedestrians to the nearest bus stop.
  • Traffic control staff and paid duty police officers will be onsite, as required.
  • Please expect delays and give yourself enough time to get to your destination, and remember to reduce your speed through construction zones.
  • Due to the nature of this work, at times, there will be construction-related noise and dust from equipment and trucks.

*Please note: As with all construction projects, some work may be re-scheduled due to weather. We’ll provide advance notice when possible. Watch twitter.com/vivanext for last-minute updates.

Drivers and pedestrians are reminded to watch for traffic shifts and signs that will guide you along your way. As always, please contact us if you have any questions about the rapidway construction.
