construction activities this week in Richmond Hill

With utility relocation underway in Richmond Hill, residents can expect to see a number of items underway along Yonge Street. See below for more information.

traffic signal activation at Yonge and Yonge Connector Road

Tomorrow, crews will be activating temporary traffic signals at the intersection of Yonge and Yonge Connector Road. Temporary disruptions to the traffic lights will be required. Please see below for further details.

work dates*: Tuesday, September 26
work hours: 9am-5pm

description of the work:

  • Traffic lights will be out or flashing in all directions at the intersection of Yonge and Yonge Connector from 9am-1pm.
  • During off peak hours, Yonge will be reduced to one northbound and one southbound lane around the intersection as crews perform this work.
  • Paid duty police officers will be onsite to direct traffic until the traffic signals are restored.
  • Once activated, crews will remove the old traffic poles.
  • Vehicle access to Yonge and Yonge Connector will be maintained at all times.
  • Sidewalks around the intersections may be temporarily closed. Where sidewalks are closed directional signs will guide pedestrians to the nearest open sidewalk.

water main installation on Yonge between Harding and Major Mackenzie

Water main crews are continuing to progress along Yonge. Starting overnight on Wednesday, crews will be installing a water main across Yonge at Elmwood Avenue/Hopkins Street.

work dates*: Wednesday, September 27 and Thursday, September 28
work hours: 7pm-7am, overnight

what you need to know:

stage 1

  • Crews will be trenching across Yonge, starting on the east side, working west.
  • As crews install water main across the Yonge northbound lanes, traffic will be pushed to the southbound lanes on Yonge.
  • Yonge will be reduced to one northbound and one southbound lane from Harding to Major Mackenzie.

stage 2

  • Crews will then trench across the southbound lanes on Yonge.
  • To accommodate this work, traffic will be pushed to the northbound lanes on Yonge.
  • Yonge will be reduced to one northbound and one southbound lane from Harding to Major Mackenzie.

other details

  • Traffic control staff and paid duty police officers will be onsite as required.
  • Sidewalks around the work zones will be temporarily closed while crews perform this work. Where sidewalks are closed directional signs will guide pedestrians to the nearest open sidewalk.
  • Access to businesses and properties near work areas will be maintained.
