lane closures this weekend on Major Mackenzie at Yonge

As part of the gas main installation on Yonge Street, crews will be working on Major Mackenzie Drive East and West beginning on Thursday, July 20.

To prepare for scheduled weekend work, crews will be removing the centre median on Major Mackenzie, east of Yonge.

work dates*: Thursday, July 20
work hours: 9:30am-3:30pm

what you need to know:

  • To accommodate this work, Major Mackenzie will be reduced to one eastbound thru lane east and west of the intersection. The eastbound left turn lane onto Yonge will remain.
  • Westbound traffic, east of the intersection, will be reduced to two thru lanes.
  • Sidewalks will be closed around the work zone. Directional signage will be onsite to guide pedestrians.
  • Crews will return to the intersection on Monday, July 24 or Tuesday, July 25 to restore the work area.
  • Paid duty police officers will be onsite to direct traffic for the duration of this work.
  • Due to the nature of this work, at times, there will be construction-related noise and dust from equipment and trucks.

Crews will be connecting newly installed gas mains on Yonge to existing gas mains on Major Mackenzie, both east and west of the Yonge intersection.

work hours: Friday, July 21 starting at 6pm – Sunday, July 23 at 6pm, for 24 hours

what you need to know:

  • To accommodate this work, Major Mackenzie will be reduced to one eastbound thru lane and one right-turn lane west of the Yonge intersection.
  • East of the intersection, eastbound traffic on Major Mackenzie will be reduced to one thru lane around the work area.
  • Westbound traffic on Major Mackenzie, east of the intersection, will be reduced to two thru lanes.
  • Paid duty police officers will be onsite to direct traffic for the duration of this work.
  • To access 9993 Yonge, motorists must use the Yonge Street entrance for the duration of this work.
  • Sidewalks will be closed around the work zone for the duration of this work. Directional signs will be onsite to guide pedestrians.
  • Due to the nature of this work, at times, there will be construction-related noise and dust from equipment and trucks.
  • Please expect delays and allow yourself enough time to get to your destination.

*Please note: As with all construction projects, some work may be re-scheduled due to weather. We’ll provide advanced notice when possible.
