telecommunications and gas main installation continues in Richmond Hill

In order to prepare for road widening work, residents can expect to see a number of construction activities underway along Yonge Street in Richmond Hill, including telecommunications and gas main installation.

utility installation on Yonge from Levendale to Elgin Mills

Starting Monday, crews will be installing a duct bank [a structure which gathers together and encases telecommunications cables] on the east side of Yonge from Levendale Road to Elgin Mills Road.

work dates*: Monday, June 19, for approximately 5 months
work hours: 7am-7pm

what you need to know:

  • There will be temporary northbound curb lane closures. More information about these lane closures will be provided once the details are confirmed.
  • Wherever possible, sidewalks will remain open. If a sidewalk is closed, directional signage will be onsite to guide pedestrians.
  • Access will be maintained to properties in work areas; however driveways may be reduced or temporarily disrupted. Advance notice will be provided wherever possible.
  • Some bus stop relocations may be required for this work. Where bus stops are affected, directional signs will guide pedestrians to the nearest open bus stop.
  • Some weekend and overnight work may be required.
  • The large equipment used for these operations will be stored along the boulevards for the duration of this work.

gas main installation on Yonge and Brookside

Gas crews continue to progress along Yonge in Richmond Hill. Starting Monday, gas main installation will begin on the west side of Yonge, just north and south of Brookside Road.

work dates*: Monday, June 19, for approximately 2 months
work hours: 7am-7pm

what you need to know:

  • The gas main will be installed using directional drilling, a tunnelling technique that minimizes disruption and excavation. Trenches will also be used in select areas where needed.
  • Temporary southbound curb lane closures will be required around the work areas.
  • Wherever possible, sidewalks and bus stops will remain open. If a sidewalk or bus stop is closed, directional signs will guide pedestrians to the nearest open sidewalk or bus stop.
  • Access to properties and businesses will be maintained; however, driveways may be reduced or temporarily disrupted. Advance notice will be provided wherever possible.
  • Traffic control staff and paid duty police officers will be on site when crews are working around the intersection.
  • Some weekend work may be required.
  • Due to the nature of this work, at times, there will be construction-related noise and dust from equipment and trucks.

*Please note: As with all construction projects, some work may be re-scheduled due to weather. We’ll provide advanced notice when possible. Watch twitter.com/vivanext for last-minute updates.

Drivers and pedestrians are reminded to watch for traffic shifts and signs that will guide you along your way. As always, please contact us if you have any questions about the rapidway construction.
