overnight hydro work at Yonge Street and High Tech Road

Starting overnight on Sunday, crews will start trenching across Yonge Street to install a duct bank [a structure which gathers together and encases hydro cables] and connect the underground service lines. Crews will then move to High Tech Road, where they will trench across to install a duct bank and connect underground service lines.

work dates*: Sunday, May 28, for approximately 4 weeks
work hours: 7pm–7am, overnight

stage 1

  • Crews will trench east to west across Yonge, south of High Tech.
  • As crews trench across Yonge, north and southbound Yonge will be reduced to one lane in the work area.

stage 2

  • Crews will then trench south to north across High Tech. As crews conduct this work, lanes will be reduced one at a time.

stage 3

  • Crews will then trench east to west across Yonge, north of High tech.

other details:

  • Traffic control staff and paid duty police officers will be onsite for the duration of this work.
  • Crews will backfill and restore the work area each night. All lanes will reopen each morning.
  • Sidewalks and crosswalks around the work area will be closed overnight. Directional signs will be onsite to guide pedestrians around the work zone. Sidewalks and crosswalks will reopen each morning.
  • Bus stops may be temporarily relocated. Where bus stops are affected, directional signs will guide pedestrians to the nearest open bus stop.
  • There will be construction-related noise and dust from equipment and trucks.
  • Please give yourself enough time to get to your destination, and remember to reduce your speed through construction zones.

paving work between Weldrick Rd and Harding Blvd

Starting Sunday night, crews will be paving on Yonge Street between Weldrick Road and Harding Boulevard.

work dates*: Sunday, May 28 to Thursday, June 1
work hours: 6pm–7am, overnight on Sunday; 8pm–7am, overnight from Monday to Thursday

what you need to know:

  • Crews will be paving northbound and southbound lanes on Yonge from Weldrick to Harding.
  • Crews will pave Clarissa, just east of Yonge; Clarissa will be reduced to a single shared lane at Yonge. Traffic control staff will be onsite to direct traffic.
  • Yonge will be reduced to one lane north and southbound in the work zone during work hours while crews:
    • Remove temporary asphalt, grind and re-pave sections along Yonge in the work zone.
    • Line paint in sections within the work zone.
  • Traffic control staff and paid duty police officers will be onsite, as required.
  • There will be construction-related noise from equipment and trucks, including grinding of pavement.

*Please note: As with all construction projects, some work may be re-scheduled due to weather. We’ll provide advanced notice when possible.
