utility work continues along Yonge

With construction season ramping up, residents can expect to see a number of items underway along Yonge Street in Richmond Hill. Starting tomorrow, hydro crews will be installing new cables at the Yonge and 19th Avenue/Gamble Road intersection. On Monday, crews will also be installing a duct bank [a structure which gathers together and encases utility cables] from just north of Bernard Avenue to just north of Devonsleigh Boulevard.

Starting Monday, crews will be installing a duct bank on the east side of Yonge from just north of Bernard to just north of Devonsleigh.

work dates*: Monday, Apr. 17, for approximately 6 months
work hours: 7am-7pm

what you need to know:

  • There will be temporary northbound curb lane closures and right-turn lane closures required along Yonge from just north of Bernard to north of Devonsleigh. More information about these lane closures will be provided once the details are confirmed.
  • Wherever possible, sidewalks will remain open. If a sidewalk is closed, directional signage will be onsite to guide pedestrians.
  • Access will be maintained to properties in work areas; however driveways may be reduced or temporarily disrupted. Advance notice will be provided wherever possible.
  • Some bus stop relocations may be required for this work. Where bus stops are affected, directional signs will guide pedestrians to the nearest open bus stop.
  • Some weekend and overnight work may be required.
  • The equipment used for these operations will be stored along the boulevards for the duration of this work.
  • Please give yourself enough time to get to your destination, and remember to reduce your speed through construction zones.
  • Due to the nature of this work, at times, there will be construction-related noise, dust and vibration from equipment and trucks.

friday morning intersection outage at Yonge and 19th/Gamble

Starting tomorrow, hydro crews will be installing new power cables at the intersection of Yonge Street and 19th /Gamble, resulting in a temporary traffic signal outage.

work dates*: Friday, Apr. 14
work hours: 7am-3pm

what you need to know:

  • Alectra Utilities [formerly PowerStream] will be completing the installation of new power cables at the intersection of Yonge and 19th/Gamble.
  • This will involve a temporary disruption to the traffic lights. Power will be restored by 3pm on Friday.
  • Traffic control staff and paid duty police officers will be onsite for the duration of this work.
  • Wherever possible, sidewalks will remain open. If a sidewalk is closed, directional signs will guide pedestrians to the nearest open bus stop.
  • Some bus stop relocations may be required for this work. Where bus stops are affected, directional signs will guide pedestrians to the nearest open bus stop.
  • Please give yourself enough time to get to your destination, and remember to reduce your speed through construction zones.

*Please note: As with all construction projects, some work may be re-scheduled due to weather. We’ll provide advanced notice when possible.
