The installation of hydro poles on Yonge Street between Highway 7 to Carrville Road/16th Avenue is now complete in Richmond Hill.

Starting overnight on Sunday, crews will start trenching across Yonge Street to install a duct bank [a structure which gathers together and encases hydro cables] and connect the underground service lines. Crews will then move to Garden Avenue, where they will trench across to install a duct bank and connect underground service lines.

work dates*: Sunday, Apr. 9, for approximately three weeks
work hours: 7pm-7am, overnight

what you need to know:

  • Crews will start trenching west from the northeast side of Yonge and Yonge Connector Road, and then trench south across Garden.
  • As crews work across Yonge, lanes will be closed one at a time, starting with the northbound curb lane. Watch for signs and reduce your speed through the construction zone.
  • While crews work on the east side of Yonge, at times, northbound Yonge will be reduced to one lane around the intersection.
  • While crews work on the west side of Yonge, at times, southbound Yonge will be reduced to one lane around the intersection.
  • Garden will be reduced to one shared lane east and west as crews trench across the road.
  • Crews will backfill and restore the work area each night. All lanes will reopen each morning.
  • Sidewalks and crosswalks around the work area will be closed overnight. Directional signs will be onsite to guide pedestrians around the work zone. Sidewalks and crosswalks will reopen each morning.
  • Traffic control staff and paid duty officers will be onsite for the duration of this work.
  • Bus stops may be temporarily relocated. Where bus stops are affected, directional signs will guide pedestrians to the nearest open bus stop.
  • There will be construction-related noise and dust from equipment and trucks.
  • Please give yourself enough time to get to your destination, and remember to reduce your speed through construction zones.

Overnight Sunday, crews will be removing and then re-painting traffic lines on Yonge Street between Weldrick Road and Harding Boulevard.

work dates*: Sunday, Apr. 9
work hours: 10pm-7am, overnight

what you need to know:

  • Crews will remove and then re-paint traffic lines on Yonge between Weldrick and Harding.
  • Yonge will be reduced to one lane each direction in this area during the work hours.
  • Traffic control staff and paid duty police officers will be onsite, as required.
  • There will be construction-related noise from equipment and trucks, including grinding of pavement, as the existing traffic lines are removed.
