bridge lowering on Highway 7 West

September 28, 2017

Although you may not have noticed, the Highway 7 bridge over Highway 400 was lifted slightly last month in order to install new bearings. Now that this operation is completed, crews will be lowering the bridge back to its original location in a two-step process.

To accommodate this work, traffic on the bridge will be stopped for 15 minutes, one side at a time. Please see below for further details.

Map: Highway 7 West work area
work dates*: Thursday, September 28 to Friday, September 29
work hours*: 12midnight–3am [overnight]

what you need to know:

  • Overnight tonight, crews will partially lower the bridge to fit into the newly installed bearings. Concrete will be poured to secure the structure. Once the concrete is cured, which takes approximately two weeks, the temporary support will be removed and the bridge will be loaded onto the new bearings.
  • In order to complete these activities, traffic on the bridge will be stopped for 15 minutes at a time in each direction. Crews will complete the north half of the bridge first and then the south half [see map above].
  • Traffic control staff and paid duty police officers will be onsite.
  • Please give yourself enough time to get to your destination, and remember to reduce your speed through construction zones.
