water main pipe installation and next segment on Bathurst

August 11, 2016

Tomorrow, crews will be installing the new water main pipe just north of Flamingo Rd. to the Highway 407 ETR eastbound ramp, as part of the Bathurst Street water main replacement. In addition, the next segment of drilling will be from south of Atkinson Ave. to south of the Beverley Glen Blvd. intersection. Please see below for further details on the upcoming work:

work area 1

work dates*: Friday, August 12
work hours*: 6am–6pm

Map: Bathurst work area

what you need to know:

  • In Work Area 1, crews will be installing the new pipe just north of Flamingo to the Highway 407 ETR eastbound ramp.
  • To install the water main pipe underground, crews will feed the pipe into an entry pit near Flamingo Rd. and then machinery will be used to pull the pipe through the hollowed area to an exit pit near the 407 eastbound ramp.
  • Wherever possible, sidewalks will remain open. If a sidewalk is temporarily closed, directional signs will guide pedestrians to the nearest crossing. Large equipment and trucks are working in the area, so please remain safely away from the work zone.
  • To accommodate the equipment needed for this operation, northbound Bathurst will be reduced to two lanes around the work area for approximately 12 hours.
  • Due to the nature of this work, at times there will be construction-related noise, dust and vibration from equipment and trucks.

work area 2

work dates*: Monday, August 15 to Wednesday, August 24
work hours*: 7am–7pm, lane closure 9:30am-3:30pm

what you need to know:

  • Work Area 2 is the next directional drilling location – south of Atkinson Ave. to south of the Beverley Glen Blvd. intersection.
  • In addition, crews will be utility daylighting – which means exposing underground utilities using a hydrovac truck – so that underground utilities can be monitored during drilling.
  • To accommodate this work, this area of northbound Bathurst will be reduced to one lane from 9:30am to 3:30pm.
  • At the end of each day, the work areas will be plated. Please watch for bumps.
Once the drilling has been completed in Work Area 2, the new water main pipe will be installed. More details to be provided.
  • Efforts have been made to keep sidewalks open wherever possible. If a sidewalk is closed, directional signs will be onsite to help guide pedestrians.
  • Transit will continue service on Bathurst and Centre during this activity. Wherever possible, bus stops will remain open. If a bus stop is temporarily closed, signs will guide pedestrians to the nearest open bus stop.
  • Due to the nature of this work, at times there will be construction-related noise, dust and vibration from equipment and trucks.
  • There may be some noise prior to 7am as crews assemble and arrange the equipment they require.
  • Please give yourself enough time to get to your destination, and remember to reduce your speed through construction zones.

*Please note: As with other road construction projects, some work may be rescheduled due to weather or other variables. Some overnight and/or weekend work may be required. We’ll provide advance notice whenever possible.
