update on winter construction and 2015 progress

December 22, 2015

So much work was accomplished along Highway 7 West in Vaughan this past year! As the area’s transformation progresses through the winter [from Edgeley Boulevard to Bowes Road], pre-construction work is beginning along Highway 7 West in Woodbridge and along Bathurst & Centre. Here are some of the highlights of 2015 and what you’ll see in 2016.

2015 milestones:

  • Two centre-lane vivastations are installed, which includes 4 canopies.
  • Lots of paving! In fact, the majority of base paving is completed from Edgeley to Keele and the biggest intersections in the area were paved, with the south sides of Jane & Hwy 7 and of Baldwin & Hwy 7 to happen in 2016.
  • Installation of concrete planters is progressing well, with ongoing work through the winter.
  • From Edgeley Boulevard to Bowes Road, eastbound and westbound traffic has already been split to each side of the rapidway-in-progress, and intersections will all soon have dedicated left-turn [and u-turn] traffic signals.
  • Sidewalk and driveway construction is ongoing.
  • You can check out a variety of construction photos by viewing the photo gallery.

what’s ahead for 2016:

  • Sidewalk paver stones and planter work will also continue on Highway 7 from the VMC area to Bowes Road. To go with the planter work, in springtime you’ll start to see trees, flowers, grasses and shrubs being planted, and the area will begin to look fresh and green!
  • In addition, you’ll see glass and tile work completed at the vivastations in progress at Highway 7 and Keele.
  • Continuing the theme of beautiful permanent features, in 2016 you’ll begin to see the signature vivaNext red pavement rolling out along the rapidway—we’re excited about this for sure!
  • A winter sidewalk plan is in place to ensure pedestrian access is maintained between Edgeley Boulevard and Bowes Road. Please watch for directional signs that will guide you to the nearest open sidewalk and remember to cross safely at signalized intersections.

your highway 7 retailers are open!
