Important changes on Hwy 7 between Commerce and Jane

November 11, 2015

Hello,

The vivaNext Highway 7 rapidway and TYSSE subway projects are well underway as we move into the next stages of construction. These include a traffic shift and permanent intersection changes.

On Wednesday, overnight line painting will proceed on the north side of Highway 7. On Thursday, traffic moving westbound will then be shifted to the north side of Highway 7. Please see below for details:

work dates: Wednesday, November 11 – Thursday, November 12
work hours: 7pm–10am
Note: Work may be rescheduled due to weather.

what you need to know:

  • During line painting, traffic lanes will be reduced to one lane in each direction, from Commerce Street to Jane Street.
  • On Thursday morning paid duty officers will be onsite to direct traffic while intersection signal lights are adjusted.
  • Traffic will be separated by a median, with three lanes westbound from just east of Edgeley and three lanes eastbound.
  • Important permanent changes to traffic and pedestrian movements at the Edgeley Street/Interchange Way and Highway 7 intersection are detailed below.

new for motorists:

  • The Edgeley Street/Interchange Way and Highway 7 intersection will have a dedicated left-turn traffic signal.
  • Left turns will only be permitted on illuminated advance green arrows. Left turns are not permitted when through traffic proceeds.
  • To access mid-block entrances on opposite sides of Highway 7, drivers are permitted to make a U-turn at the Edgeley Street/Interchange Way or Jane Street intersections.
  • Dedicated right-turn lanes will now become a right and through lane.

new for pedestrians:

  • Pedestrians are advised to cross Highway 7 in two stages as the new intersections will be wider.
  • A countdown signal will indicate how many seconds pedestrians have left to safely cross the street.
  • There will be a pedestrian waiting area in the middle of the crosswalk where pedestrians can stop, push the “walk” button, and wait for the next walk signal to safely cross the second half of Highway 7.
