Overnight work from Keele – Bowes/Baldwin

September 15, 2015

In preparation for the next traffic shift, this week, crews are paving and line painting the north side of Highway 7, from Keele to Bowes Road. Please see below for details on the temporary lane reductions:

paving work – Keele Street to Bowes Road

date/time of work*: Tuesday, September 15 for approximately three nights, from 7pm to 7am

  • Starting on Tuesday, September 15, overnight paving work is happening within the existing work area along the north side of Hwy. 7, from Keele Street to Bowes Road.
  • Access will be maintained to all properties in work areas; however, driveways to 2160 Hwy. 7, 2104 Hwy. 7, 2030 and 2006 Hwy. 7 may be temporarily disrupted. Please watch for directional signs.  Due to the nature of this work, at times there will be noise and vibration around the work area.

Highway 7 West line painting

date/time of work*: Friday, September 18 from 7pm to 6am

  • On Friday, crews will be reducing lanes along Highway 7 West from Keele Street to the GO Barrie Bridge for line painting.
  • Lanes will be reduced overnight to one lane in each direction, east and westbound. Motorists and transit riders may experience traffic delays in these areas due to lane reductions. Due to the nature of this work, at times there will be noise and vibration around the work area.
  • Once the line painting is complete, a centre median will be in place from Hillside Avenue to the GO Barrie bridge.

new centre median – permanent changes to traffic movements

taking effect*: as early as Saturday, September 19

new for motorists:

  • The Bowes/Baldwin Street intersection will now have a dedicated left-turn traffic signal.
  • Drivers can only turn left when the left-turn arrow is illuminated, and left turns are not permitted when through traffic proceeds.
  • To access mid-block entrances on opposite sides of the road, drivers can make a U-turn at the Keele or Bowes/Baldwin intersections.
  • Dedicated right-turn lanes will now become a right and through lane. There will no longer be a dedicated lane for right-turns.

new for pedestrians:

  • Since intersections are wider with new signals, pedestrians may need to cross Highway 7 in two stages.
  • A countdown signal will indicate how many seconds pedestrians have left to safely cross the street.
