new centre median, overnight line painting at Jane and Hwy 7

August 26, 2015

As of Friday morning, Highway 7 West will be in the final lane configuration, with a median in the centre of the road, to the east and west of the Jane Street intersection. In preparation for reconfiguring the lanes, crews will be line painting overnight on Highway 7 on the west side of the Jane Street intersection. See below for detailed information about the line painting work and these permanent changes to traffic movements.

overnight line painting and traffic signal work

dates /hours of work*: Between 6pm Thursday, August 27 to 8am Friday, August 28.

  • Crews will be line painting on Highway 7 overnight on Thursday night, west of Jane.
  • During the overnight hours, Highway 7 traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Edgeley Boulevard and Maplecrete Road.
  • From 4-8am, traffic signals will be flashing red. Paid police duty officers will be on site to help direct traffic.

new centre median – permanent changes to traffic movements

taking effect*: 8am Friday, August 28.

new for motorists:

  • The Jane Street intersection will now have a dedicated left-turn traffic signal.
  • Drivers can only turn left when the left-turn arrow is illuminated, and left turns are not permitted when through traffic proceeds.
  • To access mid-block entrances on opposite sides of the road between Edgeley and Creditstone Road, drivers can make a U-turn at the Jane or Creditstone intersections.
  • Dedicated right-turn lanes will now become a right and through lane.
  • There will no longer be a dedicated lane for right-turns.

new for pedestrians:

  • Since intersections are wider with new signals, pedestrians may need to cross Highway 7 in two stages.
  • A countdown signal will indicate how many seconds pedestrians have left to safely cross the street.
  • There will be a pedestrian waiting area in the middle of the crosswalk where pedestrians can stop, push the “walk” button, and wait for the next walk signal to safely cross the second half of the street.
