A new downtown is coming to Vaughan. The Vaughan Metropolitan Centre [VMC] will be a vibrant, modern urban centre for residents and businesses that encompasses all amenities of urban lifestyle. Surrounded by entertainment and cultural facilities, as well as pedestrian shopping areas, VMC will be a key transportation hub that includes Viva rapidways running in dedicated lanes along Highway 7 West, from Pine Valley Drive to Yonge Street, with a connection to the 8.6 kilometre Toronto-York Spadina Subway Extension.

Construction of the subway and the vivaNext rapidways is underway, and the beginning of this transformation can be seen along Highway 7 West. ExpoCity is a new residential development on the north side of Highway 7, between Jane Street and Creditstone Road is also taking shape. It has been brought to our attention that over the next few months, Highway 7 West will be busy with construction activity related to this project.

noticeable impacts over the next 8 weeks may include:

  • Temporary, alternating east and westbound lane reductions on Highway 7
  • Left-turn access onto Maplecrete Road will be closed during this work
  • Overnight lane reductions/closures for work activities
  • Temporary sidewalk closures
