As part of rapidway construction, we will be building several retaining walls along Highway 7 West. Retaining walls are built to provide stability between two areas of land that sit at different heights. The retaining wall is used to hold the slope in place and support the higher level of ground.
The first wall will be built at the southeast corner of Jane Street and Highway 7 to preserve the existing Black Creek Culvert [a tunnel or pipe used to allow water to move easily from one side of an obstruction to the other]. As part of this work, crews will also be installing the first oil grit separator [structures that remove sediment, screen debris, and separate oil from the storm sewer system] in the same work area.
work dates: Starting the week of November 25 until mid-February 2014*
work hours: Monday – Friday from 7am-7pm
note: some weekend work may be required
Once the wall is built, the area will be restored and a handrail will be installed on the top of the retaining wall.
