telecommunications work begins on Highway 7 West

An important step in building the vivaNext Highway 7 West rapidway is relocating telecommunications. Crews will begin moving underground telecommunications between Jane Street and the CN Bridge starting on August 26. This work will happen in segments along the corridor. Please see details below about the first segment.

Dates: Starting the week of August 26, for approximately 13 weeks*
Hours of work: 7am to 7pm
Work locations: Crews will be working on the boulevards along the north and south sides of Highway 7, from Jane Street to the CN Bridge.

description of work

Crews will be digging an open trench that will encase telecommunication wires [duct bank] underground, along the north and south sides of Highway 7 West.

impacts during construction

  • There will be temporary east and westbound curb lane closures along Highway 7 West.
  • Wherever possible, sidewalks will remain open. If a sidewalk is closed, directional signage will be on site to guide pedestrians.
  • Access will be maintained to driveways in work areas.
  • Some bus stop relocations will be required for this work. Where bus stops are affected, directional signs will guide pedestrians to the nearest open bus stop.
  • Traffic control staff and paid duty officers will be on site as required.
  • There will be construction-related noise from equipment and trucks.
  • Some weekend work may be required.
